So my gravity post boil came out higher than expected 1.072 so I decided to add some yeast nutrient (1/2 teaspoon) to some boiling water then pitched it 3 hours after initially pitching 2 viles of cali ale (made a starter).

This is 3 days later. It's been like this for almost 3 days. Smells like bubblegum/banana.

Lot of headspace in your fermenter can lead to big krausens like that, plus adding yeast nutrient after the fact probably boosted it. But the bubblegum/banana smell concerns me some., would expect that with a Hefeweizen yeast, not with Cal Ale. How warm are you fermenting it at, you may have some esters going on that may lead to the beer being off.
