My first brew in well over a year, due to my previous living situation, will go down today. Armed with all my new equipment, I will attempt to brew an American style stout..

Recipe to follow.
:mug:

Recipe for 5.5 gallons

7lbs Pale LME
1lb Crystal 120 (steeped)
1/2 lb Chocolate Malt (steeped)
1/2 lb Roasted Barley (Steeped)
Expected OG= 1.052
1 oz Galena @ 60 minutes
1 oz EKG @ 15 minutes
Expected IBU = 47-49
Irish ale liquid yeast
2 weeks primary
2 weeks condition in bottles/minikegs
:mug:

Little more IBU than I like in a stout, but the Crystal & Chocolate should balance it.

Well, it went down pretty well. Had one minor boil over. No biggie
OG ended up around 1.060...much higher than expected. I started with 5.5 to make sure after the boil I would have around 5...looks like more like 4.5 in the carboy(could explain the higher gravity).

Well primary fermentation went well...after less than 24 hours, had a huge krausen and plenty of activity. At this point, 6 days after brew day, krausen is gone, and things seem to be motoring right along. I will take a gravity reading tomorrow....I can't wait to taste it :mug:
