I got my first beer kit for Christmas. Then I was curious to see if I could use bread yeast to make wine in a Welch's grape juice container. So I emptied all the juice remaining in the fridge into the container put in the yeast and covered it in saran wrap. Should be done before that first batch of beer. Anyone else try this?

Yup, its a thing. Depending on your taste it will be either sorta drinkable or bad haha. Probably should have added a bit of sugar. Also bread yeast is unpredictable and lets off some yucky off flavors.

My prediction is it will be dry, relatively low in alcohol, yeasty, lacking in body and overall pretty funky. Id drink it though haha. Fermentation is magic!

That said my first wine consisted of smashed grapes, random amount of sugar, and random amount of bread yeast, all with a balloon with a hole as an airlock.

All get introduced somehow.

My first wine was a classic from the 70s book, The Last Whole Earth Catalog. A gallon glass jug filled with Welch's Concord, x-amount of sugar, and RedStar Champagne yeast topped with a fancy bright pink latex balloon as my airlock. It was a hit, which I promptly oversweetened when backsweetening. Lesson learned. Ended up using it to blend with other wines, used some to make mulled wine on Christmas Eve--completely out of it now. Guess I need to make more because concord is always requested by someone, plus it has so very many blending opportunities...concord crabapple is just awesome!
 
I wish I hadn't used bread yeast. Now I'm dreading how it is actually going to taste. This will definitely be a benchmark for future wine.
