So, I soaked some bottles for ~2 days in a bottling bucket w/ star san.

The labels came off really easily and now are drying, but the water was pretty red when finished. I dumped it, refilled and got my next batch of bottles going.

Should I be worried about the water being red, and dump it? Or should I just continue on with the red water and stick the next batch in.

I'm sure its just ink, but dont know if it'd be bad to have it sitting in bottles with the star san.

My idea is basically to dry them, maybe wrap the tops to keep bulk of dust and such out, and then cleaning again with a vanitor or whatever it is that u pump the bottles on. I wont be bottling for around another 2 weeks, which is why

Any input?

It's probably just ink and/or something in the paper or glue that the starsan reacted with. As long as the glass is free of any residue and clean there is nothing to worry about.

One tip is that you don't need to waste relatively expensive starsan for removing labels. Oxiclean in some water also does an amazing job.

And as long as you keep the bottles dry and can keep stuff from falling into them while being stored you'll be fine with just another quick rinse and then sanitation right before bottling.

Nothing to be worried about.

I do the same thing but with PBW or oxiclean. After about 48 bottles the water is always a muddy brown/deep red. I figure its a mixture of the ink and glue and anything else that may have fallen in. I rinse them pretty well with tap water after soaking, cover with a small square of aluminum foil, store until bottling day, and then just give a quick squirt of starsan with the vinator. Never had a problem.

ya... i actually meant to pick up some oxyclean after work today but I came straight home -- in the future i'll def do that

what kind of ratio of oxyclean do u put?
