Hi everyone on my first post,

I just botted my first batch Friday night (an all LME amber/wheat for simplicity.)

I'm already wanting to kick off a second batch, just to keep the homebrew flowing. :mug:

A coworker that used to brew heavily a few years ago gave me an old Barons no boil kit (Canadian Hi-Test.) It's been sitting in a dark, cool basement for probably 3+ years. I'm sure the yeast and hop pellets are long gone. There is also a bentonite packet, though that looks like some kind of clay/mineral from googling.

Would it be worth spending the five bucks on a new dry yeast packet (US-05?) and an ounce of cascade hops?

I think it would be a waste of time and money, just to make a stale-tasting beer.

If you enjoy playing around, then sure...Just realize it will be different from how it was intended fresh, and may not turn out.But no harm will come from it.

Me personally, I would play around to see what I got....

Well, just mixed it up in the primary tonight. Smelled and looked fine coming out of the bag. OG was correct according to the instructions. (1.056)

Might be an amusing distraction while waiting for the first batch to bottle condition...

Some thread necro here...

Finally got around to bottling this one. It ended up getting racked to a secondary and then took a backseat to a Irish Stout kit...

OG was 1.057 and FG was 1.012 (went from one extreme to the other instruction-wise.)

Took pre-bottling taste test: It's surprisingly good!

(For anyone curious I did replace the ancient yeast with Safale US-05 and a fresh 1oz packet of Cascade hops.)

I'll be looking forward to trying this out after conditioning.
