So I have a couple of extract kits from Northern Brewer that fall in around 4.5%. So what is a good way to increase the end results to say 5.5% Dry malt, priming sugar? and roughly how much? Working on a 10 batch Thanks in advance

If you want to keep the beer in roughly the same style, the way to do it would be more DME of the same type.

In a 10 gallon batch, a pound of DME will add about 4.4 gravity points. Assuming 75% apparent attenuation, that would increase your ABV by about 0.43%. Since you want to raise your ABV by 1%...

(1% / 0.43%) x 1 pound = ~2.3 pounds DME

You can use a recipe calculator to determine how much DME to add, just enter all the ingredients then you can play around with the additional amount to get the ABV you're looking for. Brewer's Friend has an easy to use, free recipe calculator. I strongly recommend more DME vs. sugar, but a combo would be good. Another way to up the ABV and add a flavorful adjunct is my favorite - Agave. Fermentable, clean, and adds some body.
