I'm going to the beach in mid June and would love to have a somewhat modest-looking vessel to easily transport a corny keg of delicious homebrew about a quarter mile from our beach rental house to the actual beach.

Any ideas? I looked at making a Jockey box, but I don't really want the kegs laying all about (it's a family beach where Alcohol is permitted but not flaunted around).

Damn that was fast! Anyone have any other ideas? This is a great recommendation - Thanks RedBenn!

Haha, someone posted that yesterday, and I was reading through the new posts, and it seemed like a perfect application

Yeah, the only really expensive part is getting a smaller corny - but I think I'm going to need one regardless for this project.

The application says for 2.5, 3, or 5 gallon kegs... do they make round coolers big enough for 5 gallon cornies?

You could stick a 5G in there and leave the lid off. The beer is drawn from the bottom so it would still be cold. Just throw a towel over the top. I'd planned on that build linked but with a tower on the lid to take camping. Never thought of just putting a cheap faucet on the outside. Awesome! But I agree. Build would happened a long time ago if it wasn't for the 3G cornies being so expensive.

I'm subscribing to this thread, I need the answer too. Heading to the beach in 2 months.
Stevorino, since you're in GA., I'm assuming you're heading to the FL. panhandle?

Good guess - but actually going to Sunset Beach, NC. Smaller & Less Commercial - very very very family oriented but not very crowded and everyone is super nice. We're pumped up about the trip!

I'll be searching over the next few nights for a cooler large enough to put a 5 gallon corny in it. I know you could put it in a trashcan with wheels like someone on HBT did a year or so ago - but I'd like something a little smaller for the beach.

Really, someone patented that? I thought that you could not get a patent on something that was just the combination of other thing (i.e camera phones - its just a phone and a camera) and this is just a cooler, tap, keg charger & corny. I think whoever has the patent on the keg charger things might be pissed if he/she hasn't been made aware (and recieves his/her royalties) for this.

I'll be lookin' for you and whatever portable dispenser we can drink from:mug:

I am on Sunset Beach every April and October... have a friend with a house down on 37th St. (Well, have a wedding in Denver this april)

I am taking a keg next time. The fitting didn't work out last time.

Never been in the summer, but great beach. I love buying fish at the place right across the bridge and grilling, drinking beer and watching the sunset.

you boys think we'll have any issues dragging a trashcan full of kegs onto the beach?

I've never had a run in with the local po's, so I don't really know what to expect

I was going to say just keep it low-key. However, I am wondering just how low-key a trash can on the beach will be. Might be fine, never done it. Just pull it up to the dune, then make trips there to refill.

Take a bag of litter, if you see a cop coming throw the litter around and then start picking it up and putting it in the "trashcan" tell the cop that you are good citizens cleaning up the beach.

And what are cops doing at the beach, don't they have a job!

SWMBO is saying regardless if it's legal/illegal - it will likely draw attention to a bunch of drunko's. I'll do some more brainstorming and let you guys know what I come up with.

Dig a hole in the sand, line it with a trash bag then drop in the cornie with some ice. No one will know it's there.

We did this with a cooler last year. Well that was the plan, some of us build the hole, others bring the cooler. We found a big hole that worked perfectly and didn't have to do a thing, hah. I will be in the same boat this summer with my homebrew. I mean if it's just in a trashcan with a picnic tap inside, people will just wonder why the hell you brought a trashcan to the beach. Shouldn't attract any attention unless you put taps on it. I'm thinking about leaving the kegs in the beach house and filling gallon jugs (plastic) and tossing them all in a cooler and taking that down there. I don't know how long you plan to stay at the beach each day, or how much you plan to drink, but that could be an option as well.

This is what my wife has recommended as well. We don't stay at the beach ALL day -so bringing 2-4 liters of brew with me for each session should be plenty. Then I can have the taps at the house for when we get really sloppy....lol

I saw some similar ones in posts above, but here is my solution. The only thing is that those 3 gallons cornies are expensive (but definitely worth it in the end).

We sell a product that is new to the market you may want to consider. It is called the Keg Coat Quick Chill. We attached the YouTube video to this site, but it may be easiest to view it on YouTube. Search "Keg Coat Quick Chill". It is available for sale on Kijiji or eBay. The Keg Coat will not only get your Keg cool, it will keep it cool for several hours. Two Keg Coats will keep you Keg cool all day. Keep the second one in a good cooler until you need it.

The Bonus...they are reusable, no more wasted money on Ice.

That Keg Coat is large enough to wrap around the largest kegs and is held in place with Velcro. If you have smaller kegs, just wrap it around the keg a couple of times. We haven't placed Velcro at multiple points yet, so on smaller kegs, tie the Keg Coat on with string or elastic. This will provide even more insulation, extending the time one Keg Coat will keep your keg cool.

I built a keg cooler for my friend last month. I just put together a wood box frame large enough to fit 2 Cornies and a CO2 tank. I cut foam sheet to fit inside the wood frame and then glued polycarbonate sheets for the inside of the box and then siliconed the seams. It's basically a big insulated box with a polycarbonate liner. The lid is detachable and held down with latches. I ran two regular shanks and perlicks through the wall to the outside. Fill it with ice and bam, you have a portable keg cooler.

While I was building this, I thought of a much better idea if I ever do it for myself. I figure I'll find an old broken 5cf chest freezer, rip out the compressor, put taps on it. Voila, a big, watertight, insulated box with taps on it that you can throw ice into. Most chest freezers even have a drain hole!
