Well, I got my face melting IIAA bottled Saturday night. I have some pics up here if anyone wants to comment:

For my next brew I intend to do a wee heavy, but I want to get some edumacation first. My knowledge of the brewing process is fairly good I think, at least for extract, partial mash/steeped grain. I know the basics of flavor and characteristics of quite a few styles. What I want to learn more about is grain. Not all grain brewing, but the different types of grain available, what they contribute to a beer, what some of the numbers mean (like 20L), and even better, a reference for what grains are typically used in particular styles. I know from some questions I have asked that that last item is often contentious, with different people saying different things, but I want to start getting a rough feel for it. My last brew I put together with my rough knowledge and Beer Smith. I want to feel even better making my own recipes or adjusting others to suit my tastes/desire for experimentation. So if anyone can point me towards articles, posts, or anything of that nature, I would be appreciative.

I've done 31 batches in 1 year and 10 months. I am still a beginner. Google is and has bean my best friend, or maybe HBT is at the top. Never got any of the books

I am finally getting to know what the diff grains impart because I've made recipes with neersmith and brewed them. Same with yeasts and hops and mash temps, etc. I know where you're coming from and I think you gotta do it your self to believe it.

My buddy and I brewed our first all grain batch this past weekend. I know you said you're not specifically looking to learn about all grain brewing but doing a SMaSH beer recipe is what I've heard is the best way to get a feel for certain grains. Since this was our first one that's what we wanted as well so that's what we did, Single Malt and Single Hops. There's a ton of info already on HBT and on the web.

Cheers!

There's a list of grains & such & what they do at the top of this forum. It's called Recipe Formulation & Ingredients descriptions. Decent place to start.
