Hello all, I have a question on using a vacuum pump for degassing my wine not looking to spend a fortune. What size pump is suitable but not over the top? What pressure do we want to achieve to degass. Thank you in advance

You don't need much 20 to 30HG is good. I have just started using a vacuum pump and its great. I got the cheapest one at harbor frieght with the 25% coupon it was around 75$. made up a couple of carboy tops out of the ornge two vent covers, got a vacume canister for about $10 to keep a safety between the pump and juice (its important).

Its so easy now to transfer and degas, and it dose a fantastic job.

Thank you for the reply is it possible to send a pic of your pump so I can see it??

check amazon. we use them when installing air conditioners. I just picked on up for like $60

Terek the small one from Amazon I used already and didn't pull any co2 out of the wine

I am still using a MityVac but always wanted something automated. How long do you leave these pumps on to degas? Any issues with leaving them on overnight and such?

Really the way to degas right is during a racking. Nothing works any where nearly as good. Set a pinch in the line about 16 inches from the fresh racking vessel and it will degas it very well. Don't be in a hurry set it up for a slow go and it will do it very thoroughly. Mine takes about 20 mins per 6 cal. I'll send a picture of mine set up and how it works when I get home.

I highly recommend the All In One Wine Pump, I've had one for several years and it has made my wine making 100% easier, I can rack, degass, filter, and bottle.
This vacuum pump invaluable! It is worth every last penny!
