So I recently bought a couple chest freezers one for kegs one for fermentation. Still waiting on a temp controller for the ferm chamber. My question is if I dropped the temp of my keezer to fermentation temps would that ruin the keg of beer I have in there? It would only be for a couple of days until the temp controller comes. And I'd avoid pulling any beer until I got it back down to serving temp.

I assume you mean increase temp not drop. It can't be any different than having the keg at room temp, which plenty of people do . So crank the temp to 64ish or whatever temp you want and remember to relax....

Either way, if the keg is tight the carbonation level isn't going to change if you take it off gas.
If it was fully carbed it'll stay that way. If it was undercarbed it'll still be undercarbed.

But...without a temperature controller, how are you going to get a chest freezer to run warm enough to ferment beer?

Cheers!

I agree with trippr. If you don't have a temp controller on the keezer then there is no difference between the two. You can either A) not pitch your yeast until the temp controller arrives or B) make a swamp cooler with a large storage bin filled with water and ice bottles. I think I'd prefer B.

I have a temp controller on the keezer just waiting on one for the fermentation chamber. Just antsy to get another beer on tap. So I guess I'll just leave the keg I got hooked up to the co2 raise the temp and ferment in that until I get the temp controller for my fermentation chamber. Thanks guys.

Yes you can! I always just pull my kegs out though. I have no dedicated fermentation chamber so much keezer does both.

OK, continue as planned. Sounds like you have a nice temperature controlled situation for your brews!

Thanks I'm working on it. The first temp controlled beer I did came out great. Also was my first kegging experience. Still kind of figuring things out. Wasn't sure if messing with temp of a kegged beer would cause any foaming issues. Thanks again for the responses. Cheers.
