I ordered a pound of Magnum a while back to use to bitter basically all of my beers. The AA% is so high that I probably won't get through the pound before they go bad.

I was thinking about throwing some in an IPA as late flavor/aroma additions and dry-hops, along with some cascade. Does anyone have any experience with Magnum late/dry-hop additions?

Thanks.

do a couple ipa's with massive magnum hop additions. i wouldnt even way it just throw it in. Ive done that with a couple ipa's and they turned out great. i had all kinds of hops left over from other brews and i stuck all of them (12oz) into a tupperware and shook them up. then throughout the brew i slowly added them kinda like the 90 minut ipa.

Since they are so high in alpha acids, you may consider doing an IPA or pale ale with only 20 minute or less additions. No 60 minute addition. Hop bursting with high AA is an effective technique for IPA's. That said, I've personally never used magnum that way. If you try it, be sure to report back.

what is this imperial and metric? is that like an once and a quarter

Well I weigh my grains by pounds and ounces and my hops by grams. I can better fine tune my hops by using grams. It's easier than trying to weigh out .086 ounces or something. If I only used hops in increments of a half ounce, I'd be limiting my potential of dialing in certain recipes.

But the point is magnum can be effective and offer a high ibu with 20minute or less adittions.
