Hey all. So I am preparing for brew day this weekend and I am going over my ingredients. I get to my hops and notice that the person helping me at my local brew shop threw in US tettnang hops, not German. The AA for the US is 6.4%, according to the package, and I know that the German is around 4.5%.

I had great success with my last hefeweizen using German tettnang. I want the beer to come out similar to my last, but I'm worried the US tettnang AA% may be too high or produce a different flavor than desired. Can anyone comment who has experience with US tettnang. Should I just go back to the store and switch out for German (assuming they have it)? Thanks.

For bittering, you can adjust based on the AA: 4.5/6.4 = 0.7, so use 70% of the American Tettnang for the same bitterness. As for aroma, from what I have read, US is closer to Fuggles than it is to German Tettnang: http://inhoppursuit.blogspot.com/2010/02/hop-history-with-dr.html

Yeah that's what I was worried about as far as aroma and flavor. I called the shop and will switch out the hops for the German style. Last thing I want is to get a 5 gallon batch of brew that isn't quite what I wanted. Thanks for the reply!
