Urgent help needed with Blichmann Brewmometer

I'm trying to get a brew going tonight and use my new Blichmann Boilermaker brewkettle and you are supposed to disassemble the thermometer and screw one piece inside and one piece outside. The problem is that when I unscrewed the two nuts the inner piece doesn't seem to come undone any way. How am I supposed to get this thing installed?

disregard. looks like I was unscrewing the wrong thing. seems like it came with another nut and washer that I temporarily lost. thats what I get for unpacking this thing a month and a half before using it.
