Hello everyone, not gonna get too into it...Am planning on making a 5-6 gallon English IPA and wanted to know if my hop selection and schedule is alright? I am planning on using the following:

1.5 oz Challenger (A.A: 8.5) @ 60mins
1.3 oz East Kent Goldings (A.A: 5) @30mins
1.3 oz Challenger " " @ 15mins
1.3 oz East Kent Goldings " " @ 5 mins
1 oz Pioneer Dry hop for 7 days in secondary.

If anyone has any feedback on how this hops might mix in this schedule please feel free to note it. I am aware that hop mixtures can be done anyway you want it i just want feedback on these 3 particular hops! Thanks!

If it was a American IPA Id say drop the 30 minute addition down into the last 15 mins cause its wasted at 30, but maybe English IPAs are different?

Yeah I'd move the 15 and 30 min additions to the end and hopstand it. Apart from the UK hop varieties, I would think an "English IPA" has a more malty character than an "American IPA" and probably a touch of fruity yeast character from the English yeast.

EKG is like the premiere UK aroma hop. Using it at 30min will totally waste it since it has very little bittering potential.

I like adding EKG at the 30m or 20m mark, Challenger is a great replacement for bittering, but it's a cheap hop here. Is it cheap in the US? To be fair, I'd have a simpler hop schedule - 60m, 20m, hopstand, dry hop.

use challanger as bittering and EKG as flavor/aroma at end. I also usually FWH my english ales. Throw in some maris otter and you can't go wrong. I also like using Burton Ale or THames Valley yeasts.

thanks for the input everyone, any thoughts on using the Pioneer for hopstand? I think maybe now ill go with this...

2 oz challenger @ 60
1 oz EKG @ 20
1 oz EKG @ 10

and either .50 of EKG or Pioneer for a 20 min hopstand @ 180

Pioneer hops are good, but I'd be more likely to add them around the 20m and leave some of the aroma to come from EKG. Unless you have lots of Pioneer and then just skip the EKG. Or blend both 50/50 in all the late additions.
