just bottled my hefe today. the last 2 batches that I did I carbed to what I thought was going to be 3.4 vol of CO2 but both batches turned out to having around an ale style (lower) carb, which is less carbonation than I would prefer for the style. so this time I carbed to 3.8 vol. For 4.3 gal of beer I added 6.6 oz of corn sugar (as per calculators at 65 degrees fermenting temp). I have been fully aware of the possibility of bottle bombs and am aware of the danger. So if this batch turns out like the last ones I should have slightly less than that but if it carbs as it should, is there a chance that I should worry about bottle bombs?
I've done my research and it seems so back and forth with save volumes of CO2. some say 3 vol is max safe, and some say they regularly carb to at least 3.5 for hefes. is there anyone with some experience that can help ease my mind? .... As it stands I am planning to crack a beer every week to see how carbonation is going and can/will throw it in the fridge when proper carbonation is reached.
I have a multitude of different bottles which doesn't help my cause either but the ones that I will sample will be the thinnest/lightest bottles to avoid this unfortunate possibility
