Went to tap a keg, pumpkin beer that's been sitting at 10 psi for about 2 weeks. Whenever I tap it with out gas and have already blead the keg, it won't pour from the faucet.

If I put the black out on it, it will pour uncontrollably. If I put the black out on it with no gas, it pours subtly. I've taken tools to the faucet, and the gas out post...This is the first time I've used this keg which I bought from Northern Brewer...replaced the rings, everything else seemed fine. The beer is carbed fine too. So why when I turn gas on does it freak out? Is the inside connection a possiblity? ahh, I'm relaxin but geez, anyhelp is appreciated.

I'm thinking it may be the black out connecter. It may have been rattling when I shook it. Either way, I'm relaxin, but help from the pros is always appreciated!

I guess the head scratcher for me is understanding your post. I read it three times and still cannot figure out what you are saying, exactly.

gotcha.

When I attach the black "out" connecter, with or without gas, it pours from the faucet. With gas it pours a lot, without it trickles. I've tried to tighten the faucet and it doesn't make a difference. Maybe is it just pressure? It's a new keg, I'm running three from one regulator and the other two are fine. Hope that helped?

Once the keg comes up to pressure, it should pour about the same with gas off as it does on for a glass or two anyway. Makes no sense that turning gas off or on causes a significant difference that quickly. I can turn off the gas and bottle a 12 pack (or pretty near it) before I have give another shot of gas. Granted it pours more slowly each beer, but still. I'd be sctaching my head too.

It sounds like something is wrong with the faucet. When you hook up the liquid out with the tap closed, nothing should come out of the faucet.

Do you have a picnic tap you can hook up?

If you don't, I would double check you have the correct connections (gas QD to gas in post and out QD to out post), double-check the posts are ratcheted down all the way, try it again. I'm thinking it's a faucet thing though.

Agreed. If beer is flowing through the faucet then the faucet is obviously open, there is no secret passage way. You said you have other kegs hooked up, are these just carbonating or are they hooked up to faucets as well? If so switch the keg to another faucet and see. What kind of faucets are you using, and what happens when you hook up the beer and you push/pull the faucet handle in the other direction?

when the gas is off and the keg is purged, the beer doesnt flow. that should be obvious...

when the gas is on, the beer comes out too fast. so either reduce your pressure, or use a longer piece of hose.

everyone is overthinking this.

Gas in / Liquid out reversed ?

One of my ball lock kegs is clearly marked so it would be hard to screw it up. The other one is much more subtle, I have to look at the pattern of the nut on the post.

audger, I think you overlooked the quote above. He said that with or without gas, it pours from the faucet.

Lots of good ideas in here, thanks all! Haven't had a chance to mess with it but will this weekend. I know some trouble shooting and a more "fresh" state of mind will help solve this one. haha

I have three perlicks, with three kegs attached. I also have a picnic tap I can check out. I'd be willing to bet the problem is an extremely easy solve. Either way, I truly appreciate all of the ideas everyone. I'll keep ya posted!

beaksnbeer wins

100% right on the tap. A rubber gasket some how got off kilter and slid under the "front locking ball"??? The mighty perlick failed me. We're all good now. Thanks all!
