I am thinking of building a two tier system, having the mash tun raised. I wanted to do that because then I could use gravity to draw the wort from the tun into the boil tank and reduce the risk of compacted grain bed. Have people had problems with compacted grain beds with a single tier system?

Thanks.

my 2tier system is set-up with the hlt draining from gravity and the tun and kettle on the same level. just dont open your valve more than halfway on the pump out and i'm fine.

I have a two tier system as you describe (HLT and MLT on same level and BK on a lower lever, with MLT gravity draining into BK) and it works fine. The Brew Magic System works the same way.

Same here...my MLT is on the second tier with the brew keg and the HLT down low.

Sorry about the resolution on the picture...
