My scale has gone and died on me, and I'm about to start an all grain batch tonight. I'm just looking for a rough guide so I can better estimate my grain bill.
Can anyone tell me roughly what the weight of one gallon of malted barley would be?

Ok, I had a 10 lb bag of Crystal that I hadn't touched yet. I divided it up into two one gallon jugs, and it filled both almost perfectly. I'm going to run with a rough guide of 5 lbs to a gallon for this batch. Guess I answered my own question, but if anyone with a scale handy could verify, I'd appreciate it.

I know there will be variations in weight from one batch to another, but a basic guide is nice to have.

5 pounds if uncrushed 2-row fits into a 1 gallon ziplock if it helps. I have my scale but no grain...sorry.

Agreed that @5lbs per gallon for most grains. However not all are the same. A 50# sackof 2row fits nicely in 2 5gal buckets. But I just got a 50# sack of wheat malt & there is plenty of room left in each bucket.
