So I read about an IPA the other day with all citra hops made me want to make a wheat IPA with it would this work out. New to the no kit to help me. #6 Bavarian wheat DME
#1 White wheat flaked and #1 2 row malt at 150 for 60 min
1oz citra 60 min
1oz citra 15 min
1oz citra 10 min
1oz citra 5 min
1oz citra flame out
3 oz citra dry hop in secondary
Yeast us-05

Would this work just sounded like a citrus wheat IPA would be good. Like I said never made one with out a kit just added to kits. Also if my local shop sells whole grains do I need to roll the wheat or whats the best way thanks.

You have to mash wheat malt and mashing 100% wheat is probably going to be a mess. If you are using basic white wheat you have to do a cereal mash so I don't think this is going to work too well.

He has white flaked wheat and that comes in the wheat kits I get so I thought it would work.

The directions to hold the wheat at 150* for 60 minutes is a mash, so it has to be malted wheat grain. If you do it with flaked wheat you'll wind up with a gummy, starchy mess and no conversion.
So, either use wheat malt, or if you want to use flaked wheat add in 1-2 lb. of barley malt.
And yes, if you are using whole grains from your LHBS they do need to be crushed. The store should do that for you, free of charge.

Ok I think the flake and two row should work. #1 of each.

So I just put this in the keg man does it smell good. Taste pretty good as well. I will keep you updated on finished product.

You used 8 oz of Citra?

Is it overpowering? I love Citra and usually use 3oz in boil and one in dry. Let know!

My new calc said 101 ibu doesn't taste like it though nice wheat flavor with a grapefruit citrus kick at the end
