I have a true keggerator a tdd-1 that works great except the beer is too cold. I have it set on the lowest setting of 1. and according to all the different temp. Gauges I have used it is right at freezing 32-33 degree . any idea what the problem might be. The unit is 5 yrs old

Have you modified it in any way? Is the evaporator fan running? Is this a new condition or has it always run cold? Are you measuring the air temperature or the actual beer temperature?

I tried turning it to 4 today and after 5 hrs the air temp dropped a few degrees.

Also it is about 5 yrs old . bought it used a couple months ago. Great shape just to cold.

Emailed true today and a main. Tech said it sounded like it needed a new temp control

I'll assume you didn't modify it and it has always run too cold. What's the beer temperature?

FWIW, air temperature is NOT a reliable way to monitor the cooling function of this type of cooler. The way these units work is the thermostat probe monitors temperature WITHIN the evaporator which is allowed to drop well below freezing during the cooling cycle. After the variable SET (cut-out) temperature is reached, the cooling cycle ends and the evaporator temperature is allowed to rise to a fixed value (cut-in) around 40deg for a defrost cycle. Then the cycle repeats. This cycling results in widely varying air temperatures within the unit. The important temperature is the actual temperature of the beer which is a function of the SET temperature and the compressor duty cycle.

If your beer temperature is too cold, this TRUE Installation Manual contains instructions on page 11 for adjustment of the thermostat for high altitude operation. It might be worth a try to make a small adjustment to the CUT-OUT temperature with a 5/64ths allen wrench, 1/4 turn clockwise. Set the thermostat at the mid-point, adjust the CUT-OUT and then let it stabilize for at least a day and check the beer temperature for improvement.

Page 11 and 12 of this TRUE document shows two types of thermostats and their adjustment methods.

Good Luck

Yes the air temp is around 32 deg. and the actual beer temp is around 34 to 35 deg.

I talked with a true tech. And he said the temp control unit might be bad. easy fix about $50.
And no i have not modified it in any way

I tried turning it to 4 today and after 5 hrs the air temp dropped a few degrees......

The compressor cycles off/on. the fan runs all the time
I'll assume the fan you are referring to is the evaporator fan inside in the upper rear of your unit. There is also a fan at the condensor coil in the lower rear outside which should cycle on and off with the compressor.

From your posts it appears that the existing thermostat is not stuck on and when adjusted, makes a noticable change in beer temperature, therefore it is functioning, just not in your desired temperature range. Based on this, I would suggest trying to make a small cut-out adjustment to the thermostat per the instructions above.
