I have a Hefeweizen in a keg right now that doesn't seem to be carbonating, but it's been a bit of a ride...

  • I kegged it one week ago, straight from primary to keg.
  • Hit it with 30 psi for 24 hrs - I even rocked the keg for a few mins to burst carb it.
  • Down to 12 PSI for 48 hrs but...
  • Had to take it off the gas for 2 days to recarb another keg
  • Now CO2 has been back on for 3 days @ 14 psi
  • I pulled a glass today and it was barely carbed at all.

Am I just being impatient? I figured there would be a little bit of carbonation but there is almost none.Do I need to wait a few more days @ 14?

Should I hit it with 25 - 30 again for a day?

the first thing i think is... what is your temp at? colder temps=more disolved Co2

Temp is 38-40

Hmmm keg leak.... Possibly because i brought these kegs back in a duffle bag on the plane and i did notice a small dent in the post. However i checked with starsan around the lid and the reg still reads 14.

However, just because the reg says 14 is that the psi in the keg? Or the psi going TO the keg?

if the keg has been sitting for awhile then yes its the pressure... so you can add co2 and here it going in? maybe double check the leaks again.

Hefeweizens need to be at around 18 psi to carb well, I had the same exact problem a few weeks ago with my hefe. Cranked mine up to 18, and after a few days it was perfect.

I checked for leaks again and found nothign with starsan around the lid, posts and tube. Plus the levels in my co2 tank aren't dropping at a rate that would suggest a leak.

Yes I can hear gas going into beer when i crank it up.

I cranked it to 18 and will let it go for ac ouple of days before checking it again.

Good luck, I just ordered a 2nd reg for this very reason, the hefe's just need more carbing to really be "right"

I should report back to finish this thread that yes indeed in did just need more time at a higher psi.

It sat at 18psi for probably 7 days and that was after a burst carb of shaking for a few mins and 30 psi for 24hrs.

I have also recently installed a tee into the gas line and am currently carbing this wheat beer and a pale ale at 14psi.

In the end, the old adage rings true: RDWHAHB

Thanks for the update. When I use the search feature, I always think that it sure would be nice if people posted the outcome. A lot of threads seem to end with "Thanks I'll try that".
