I put on the treacle ale today from The book 'home brewed beers and stout' by CJJ Berry.

Treacle Ale
907g Gloden syrup
900g Black treacle
1Kg sugar
3oz fuggles hops
5 gallon(UK) water
Yeast

Boil all for 45mins, strain, cool, add yeast. O.G.1050.

Also put some Honey Beer on found recipe in an old brewing book.

Honey Beer
1lb Honey
1/2oz Fuggles Hops
1 Gallon(UK) water
Juice of a lemon
yeast

Boil hops for 30mins, Strain, add Honey, boil for 5mins, Skim, cool and add lemon juice and yeast. O.G. 1038.

Has anyone else tried them.

wow, that's a lot of treacle. I don't think I would care for it much. A little molasses goes far for me, and having 2 lbs of it in a brew might be Too Far.

If you like molasses a lot, you would probably dig it a lot.

also... can that Honey Beer really be considered beer? it doesn't have any barley in it. More like a mead with hops, IMHO.

Hi All, Sad News on the Treacle Ale, over the last few days it has developed a very sour smell, stinking the room out now, its had a foamy head since the start, but on testing the gravity its still at 1050, the same as the start, decision was made to throw it out :( (5 gallon) on the positive note the Honey beer/mead/ale is fine.

regards Paul
