Traffic ticket blues

Got pulled over for having an expired state inspection sticker today. It is going to cost me $152. I noticed that the ticket is for an expired registration. My registration is not expired. I wonder if I should fight it?

Yes!!!!! Regardless of your inspection sticker, at the time of the "infraction" for having expired registration, your registration was actually current.

WHEN you go to fight this ticket all they will know (because you will bring your reg with you that will show start/end dates) is that your reg is good to go.

The cop phucked up on your ticket, go get a new inspection and chalk this one up as another bullet dodged.

Please stick it to the TX man for me. I got a ticket when I was down there and blah, blah, blah, screw tiny Texas town judges...

Everyone should cash in their get out of jail free card. Go to court like you have no idea why he gave you a ticket for an expired registration when yours is perfectly good.
I assume the state inspection thing is that giant ****ing sticker they put in the windshield?

You might want to look into the law first. An expired inspection may be grounds for an invalid registration, which is written up as expired. Purely speculation, though.

You should be able to find it somewhere online. I've fought tickets for parking in my own driveway. Was parked on the concrete between the sidewalk and the street, got a ticket for it. The law was written to keep people off of the grass which is considered part of the city's easement, but I had to reference other laws to prove that I was not in the wrong. I've been parking that way for about 5 years at that point, but this was the first time I got the ticket. It was only $15 but that wasn't the point.

If you keep letting the police get away with something that isn't right, it only gets worse. If he's going to give you a ticket, he has to do it right. It's their job to enforce the laws, but its your job to push back if they are doing it wrong or overstepping their boundaries. IMO, its part of a citizen's responsibility. ALL authority figures must be held accountable.

If they get away with something small it's only a matter of time before they overstep their (assumed) authority.

YES!! FIGHT IT!!! 1st get your inspection done, then when you go to court don't mention anything about the inspection, far as the judge knows, you got a ticket for expired reg. If the cop shows up in court, he'll have some 'splainin' to do & you'll beat the thing. Just make sure you get the inspection thing done (and passed) before you go to court & be sure to take your reg with you to prove it's valid. Regards, GF.

That said still worth going to court. I have heard that in Austin the cops never show up for a minor violation, and if the cop doesn't show up the case is thrown out.

Very true. It's certainly worth a shot.

I just finished my traffic school for a speeding ticket on the bay bridge. Damn zero tolerance policy caught me.

Here it has no effect on the registration. Its a non moving violation and if you go get the car inspected withing a day or two they will drop the ticket all you need show is a fix it receipt .

Come to think of it, I've gotten fix-it tickets like that a few times in the past. There has never been a fine associated with it.
