I accidentally dumped yeast in at 105 degrees. Do I get a mulligan? Can I repitch tomorrow or should I just dump it?

Thanks,

Brewing idiot

No dumping necessary. Cool it down to proper temps before the yeast have a chance to go nuts producing undesirable flavors. If it was at 105 you probably didn't kill your yeast, but if a day or two goes by with no activity, I would re-pitch then.

If your using dry yeast it is suppose to be re-hydrated at around that temp anyway.I would wait a couple days and see if it takes off, the worst case you may have to re-pitch, and you may get extra esters, fusals, etc and it may require a few months aging to smooth out but i doubt you ruined it.

I opened the fermenter tonight. I think there were no bubbles because of the head space in the fermenter was a lot.4 gallons of wort in 8 gallon fermenter. It smelled really bad and had a lot of foam. I have heard that wyeast 1010 is stinky. I think it is all good. I will check gravity tomorrow.

Thanks for the advice.

I made a similar oversight yesterday on a pale ale. I pitched Wyeast 1056 into ~90F wort, this morning it's blowin'and goin'...
