Today I learned that 99% Isopropyl alcohol will attack the polymers in acrylic.

I melted my auto siphon when I went to sanitize it!

Lucky I had the SS racking cane to use.

Just thought I would share.

EDIT:
I have also learned that it is useless as a sanitizer. You need 30% water to carry the alcohol through the cell membranes!
I will stick with StarSan...
 
I remember seeing guys in the pits filling 3lb coffee cans with rocks & soak'em with methanol to cook breakfast over. Same thing sorta.
I used to power the lamp in my chemistry set with that type of alcohol.
 
How/why do you even HAVE 99% isopropyl alcohol? Do you work in a lab?

Ha, no but I guess that it is a little off the norm. My co-worker used to have a printing company and he brought it to me when he heard me talking about brewing and sanitizing.

You can buy, no restrictions that I am aware of. Paper Plus in Southfield MI is were he bought his supplies.
