My first batch of Irish red ale is fermenting. Is it possible to both bottle and keg a 5 gallon batch? I was thinking it would be nice for me to be able to give a few bottles to each of my buddies then have a partial keg for here at home. Thanks.

Look up simple keg gun. You can fill directly from a carbonated keg with out needing an expensive bottling gun. I made mine from just a picnic tap, bottling wand, and a small bung. Works great.

Sure, you could either calculate how much priming sugar for lets say 1G of beer (simple math) vs 5G. I would rack 1G to bottling bucket, then the rest to the keg.

Or you could transfer all to a keg, carb it, then fill bottles. You can use a counter-pressure filler, which is a DIY on here, or spend $$$ on the Blichmann Beer Gun.
