I am planning on doing my second batch next weekend hopefully and want advice on getting the liquid extract out of the milk container easier. would it be a good idea if i poured it in a bowl first then cut off the top and scraped out rest with a spatula?

You could do that, or I take a glass measuring cup, dip it in the hot wort and VERY CAREFULLY pour it into the container, cap, shake gently a few seconds, carefully remove cap and dump back into the wort.

This is the method I would go with. You'd be surprised how well the extract comes off the walls of the jug when boiled water is introduced.

This is kind of what I do. I start by putting the entire container in a separate pan with some hot water to heat up and thin out the extract. After I pour the extract into my boil pot, I'll take some of the hot water from the boil pot and put it into the extract container and shake it up a bit, then pour that back into the boil pot. Makes it a whole lot easier.

This is what I do when I occasionally do an extract brew :mug:

+1 on the hot water and measuring cup method.

Another option is to order from Austin Homebrew. Their extract comes in buckets (at lest it did last time I ordered), which makes getting it out a lot easier. The buckets are great for making up Star San solutions to sanitize all of your equipment.

im not anal about getting it all out. by weight, what's left in the container is so insignificant to me that its not worth the trouble. I just scrape it out as best I can with a sanitized spoon, then toss the bucket in the sink.

I dip the jug in the pot to get some hot water in, cap it, shake it, then pour it back in the pot while taking great care not to burn myself. I might change how I do it if I go to late extract additions but I figure it will be boiled for an hour so I don't worry about sanitization.
