Hi all

I want to add a star anise, orange zest tincture to an IPA im doing,

In people's experience which is better:
1. Rack to secondary after fermentation is finished and add tincture let sit for another week, cold crash then bottle?
2. Ferment in primary only for 10 days, cold crash for 4, rack to bottling bucket, add tincture to bottling bucket and bottle?

kind regards
Ryan

Havent worked with as much tincture as I would like, but have used plenty of coffee , which is similar to what you are doing (adding flavor), and I have read and been around long enough to offer the advice of bottling bucket. Its scent and or possibly flavor will diminish over time sadly. So double racking it will at least conceptually hurt that due to oxidation. The other way, option 1 would be if you didnt make a tincture and needed to extract the flavor. I personally wouldnt secondary raw zest and anise as they contain no sugar, so I would add them to the primary if untinctuerd. They could be added at end of boil to and the taste will be different. Jusy my 2c.
