Yesterday, my wife went shopping with her mother and sister while I stayed home and brewed. While they were out, they stopped in to World Market, which happens to be one of the few places in Birmingham where one can find a nice selection of import craft beers.

Well, she thought of me and decided to get me a "surprise" while tshe was out. She picked up the following:

Knowing that I like Octoberfests, she picked up a six of Erdinger Oktoberfest.

Knowing that Chimay is my favorite, she picked me up a bottle of Grande Reserve.

She then picked out two more - a Paulaner Salvator (which had been on my "to try" list), and a Unibroue Maudite.

I have to say... that's some pretty good taste (especially considering that she doesn't touch beer). She's apparently been listening when I talk about what I like and don't like, and did a really nice job picking out beers that I might enjoy.

For the record, I tried one of the Erdingers last night... not exactly knock your socks off beer, and not quite as much going on in an Octoberfest as I might prefer... but it is quality beer that is very drinkable.

I am sipping on the Maudite right now, and I have to say... this is incredible beer. Excellent stuff.

Yeah, she's a good woman.

That's always worth bonus points (the I'll meet you after midnight kind!) when they get you good beer &/or meat without being asked. Extra bonus points for getting what you want. The salvator doppel bock is darn good. I have many bottles in rotation from it. The chimay blue label was good. Def a keeper!

It's good to have a wife that supports your obsession. Mine actually bought me my first brew kit for Christmas. She's been telling me I need to start brewing again.

Gotta keeper I do.
