As you may be aware I am a pastor of a church. I try to move it in a positive direction, engage the members, get them thinking about the world around them and what they might do to live with hope and purpose. But I have been having to deal with so much crap this week from winey little piss ants who have nothing better to do then send me bitchy e-mails, My question is why be a part of a volunteer organization if all you want to do is give people a rash of crap?

OK, I am done ranting. Pretty lame as rants go, but I am simply tired. Too busy to read posts and brew. That just is not right.

Glad to know im not the only one, 6 finals in three days, a total of about 10 hours of sleep since Sunday, and then to top it off surgery on Friday. Fun way to start summer. But, yeah trying to organize volunteers is about the most frustrating thing on this earth.

not to whine.... but Uncle Sam owns me. The military has it own way of "pissing you off" day in and day out. Only 11 more years to go!!!!!

Guess there is light in the tunnel... I get promoted on June 1st!!!

Edit-- Double posted for some reason. Probably Uncle Sam haunting me cuz I brew. I say F**K my good Uncle!!!!! Sam that is...

It must be something in the air...hopefully it isn't in the beer! I screwed up a big project and now have to redo tons of work.
P.S. – I love hearing your perspective. I think sometimes we forget preachers are real people to.

I say you respond to their emails with, "Jesus loves you, but I'm considering calling a meeting with him to discuss his position on this matter."

You have infinitely more patience than I do. Maybe they don't need to be volunteering. It sounds like they may need to direct there energies somewhere else. Or maybe they just need to RDWHAHB???

On a smaller scale, I once had the same problem. I volunteered with an animal shelter to update their website. They knew I was a volunteer, but some of the non-working women who also volunteered soon became bitchy and bossy. I'd get e-mails at 10:00pm requesting changes, and then at 11:00pm bitching that the changes weren't implemented, even though I told them repeatedly that I quit checking e-mail after 9:00pm. Too much whining, no thanks. I quit.

I don't know how you shepherd types do it. All that thankless whining.

You mean you don't run the church of beer?!

No but his churches web site says they have a Twelve Step program.:tank:

BP, I know from experience what you are talking about. My wife ran a homeless shelter program in seven different churches seven nights a week. It was almost entirely volunteer run. She had her share of whining volunteers and backstabbing board members, but she kept her eye on her calling and the mission she was given. It takes a special person to be the Shepard of the flock. At my church the men are all encouraged to have an accountability and prayer partner. Even our senior pastor has one. It is a wonderful thing to have a like minded man to hold you up when things are weighing you down. I'll keep you and your church in my prayers.

P.S. Sorry about the comment above. I just got a kick out of a Pastor that brews beer also has a Twelve Step program meeting in his church.

The initial problem is that certain people out there are just born to bitch and moan and complain, rather than just take the problem by the nuts and fix it. They live to whine, it gives them purpose and pleasure without having to really lift a f*cking finger. It's the lazy man's way of feeling like they're doing something important.

This initial problem has been exacerbated over the last decade or so by the quasi-anonymity of e-mail and internet chat rooms. Prior to that, the whiners at least were somewhat deterred by the fact that, in order to whine and complain, they had to approach someone and confront them. Now, they can just fire off an e-mail without leaving the comfort of their chair.

Leeches.

Perhaps they consider it a check mark on their good deeds list rather than a true service?

Kind of reminds me of when people give money/alms and expect that there is something in it for them.

AMEN Brother!

I am the musician and warden for our small church here in Mississippi. We don't really have too much trouble with this stuff but I do know what you are talking about. I think the problem has some to do with folks not viewing the church as a volunteer organization but rather an organization that they are a part of that is designed to serve them. then they start complaining like they have a right to dictate how you do things.. when they(and everyone else) would likely be better off if they just stepped up and did some work.

Don't let it get you down. There are some people that no matter their situation just won't ever be happy and/or content.

hang in there.

You've answered the question right there. I think that's the real reason that alot of people volunteer for stuff. They want the attention and to feel special. For alot of people that means bitching.

To keep things in perspective, I'm just glad that this is no where near as bad as some of your other bad day threads.

Chin up! We're here for ya. :mug:

Those who can't do teach. Those who can't teach, complain. Those who don't understand enough to complain, whine.

Drink good beer, and bitch about bitching with good friends I have never met on my cool new computer. It balances out. You are a great community! How about joining my church?

If I was ever to join a church, BP, it would be yours... ;)

(the after-mass socials have got to :rockin:)
Heathen! BP's a Presbyterian. But the "dinners on the grounds" should be fantastic - buckets of fried chicken from various chains, a plethora of green bean casseroles, pasta salad, cupcakes, and kegs of AHB-approved homebrew! Oh, look, who sprung for the spiral sliced ham...?

D'oh!

Shows how religious I am. Technically a Catholic, only converted so I could get into my old g/f's pants. Gotta love that repression!
