Just picked about 5lbs of blackberries WoooHooo. Some were still a little tart but most are soft, sweet and tasty:ban::ban::ban:

Now I need to do it 5 more times and I'll be in wine city:D

There here..... I don't know where to look :D

Sounds good, everything here is about 2-3 weeks behind as we had our coldest spring since 1955

My grammar gland just exploded.

We made a Blackberry Wine last year. It called for 25 lbs as well. It was way too sweet! The recipe we followed called for 15 lbs of sugar. Avoid that recipe! I think a dentist developed it.

I think I used 1 1/2 lbs per gallon in my recipe. It had hudge blackberry flavor. Kinda reminded me of Lambrusco.

Whats a grammar gland?:D

There here is in Newport,Tenneesee right now.

There - "I'm going there."
Their - "I'm picking their berries."
They're - "They're going to the berry patch." (contraction of "they are.")

#3 was the correct choice.
Glad your berries are ready & good luck with your wine.
Regards, GF.

Hey Clann what was your recipe? I love Lambrusco and would love to figure how to make something similar!

I cant remember exactily but it was 4 lbs fruit and 1 1/2 lbs sugar per gallon and appropriate acid blend, yeast nutrient and cant remember if I used any tannin or not.
I think it came out of The Joy of Home Winemaking by Terry Garey

I feel bad now. I would fix it if I could:eek:

By the way I ended up with 7 lbs of berries yesterday.:D

We're way behind, but the blackberries here are flowering and we're hoping for another great year.

To celebrate, last might we cracked open a bottle of last year's wine! It's early, I know, but it was oh so good!

I used 3 pounds of blackberries per gallon- it's definitely lighter than my usual recipe but it's very good. I normally like to use 4 pounds per gallon.

Wow Yooper, I picked about 3 more pounds today. I'm on my way to my first 5 gallon batch. Normaly I can only stand to pick enough to make a gallon but the bushes are just LOADED this year. In some spots I can literally grab a handfull:rockin:

Hope your bushes are slam packed as well.:mug:

Ours are about half and half right now. Some are black and some a red on the same cane and they don't have as many as normal. I decided to go blueberries instead of Blacks this year. I have 8.5lbs of Blues picked so far. Get'em picked before the birds do.

Thanks I will look into it! My moms property has enormous bushes! They will be ready around late august though! They have not even flowered yet here!
