Possibly hitting JK tomorrow for my first time. Anything a FNG needs to know?
Bring hundreds of dollars. Drink lots of water today.

I like to do the smaller pours to be able to try as many beers as possible. Don't overlook the taps at Stanley's. Also, if it lasts more than 4 hours, please consult with your physician.

You know we only have two active SW forums and the other one is called "Jester King Thread" right? Terrible.

Joking aside, have a great time. Stanley's has great pizza and garlic knots. Pieous (very close) has even better pizza and usually a shorter wait if you want to go before or after...and they have brisket pastrami. If somebody took that brisket pastrami home and made a reuben, I think the world might implode with tastiness.

Also, I'm very excited to finally take the Live Oak brewery tour tomorrow...9 years of drinking their awesome beers but first time to actually visit.

I have to disagree here. Their pastrami is outstanding, but their pizza just doesn't blow my mind. Still better than Stanleys and a better love story than Twilight tho
Give thejukes a break...I think he lives near the border and maybe his best option down there is Pizza Patron. Curious though - do you think there is better pizza in town? I would rank the top 5 in Austin as:
1. Pieous
2. Salvation
3. Stanley's
4. Home Slice
5. Pinthouse

Thank you. I do live within pissing distance of the Rio Grande. However, I have lived in several states and have even been all up in Europe. I stand by my statement. That margherita was outstanding.

ETA is midafternoon. No real idea when, driving back to Houston after.

I have this thread bookmarked, totally forgot there's a JK thread as well. See....FNG.

I also need to try St. Philip, got the mattchow vouch.

I need to try every one of those except pinthouse, which i have tried and wasnt thrilled with the pizza. Although i was more focused on the beer at that time and cant remember WHY i wasnt a fan, so will have to check them out again!

Being from the northeast, ive yet to find compareable pizza, subs and chinese, but ive gotten a few that are close.

Damn it mwbbq i wish I disagreed with your list. Verbatim exactly how I rank the pizza in Austin. What I was trying to say is, while still best in class locally, not " the beer I've ever digested". I'm not blowing any homeless dudes for some pieus, and ask mgr78704 , that's my stamp of approval.

I love love love Via 313 pizza at Craft Pride. After that Pinthouse and Home Slice.

Pieous pastrami tho. Go get the Pieous Plate with extra bread... they're homemade bread is the best.
Pieus plate and a Caesar salad was my lunch today after a hike at Pedernales falls with the dog and gf. Lutter , I wish I could quit you.

Sorry I don't always check back. Oh well. My buddy and I went to JK around 7PM and the line at Stanleys was the DEFINITION of ridiculous. As in I would have had to wait probably 30 minutes in line, then 2 more hours for my actual pizza. Got my bottles and went to Pieous and there was a line out the door. F THAT NOISE.

My friend and I ended up driving all the way to Bucees in Bastrop, got myself some fried chicken n fries and salty ass texas toast. It was satisfying though.

You went to Bucees and didn't get a sausage-cheese-jalapeño kolache?

I don't buy kolaches unless they're made at Hruskas, Weikels, or homemade by an actual Czechoslovakian
Spoiled ass central Texas kolache snobs. I envy you.

Although I'm sure Bucees sucks on the kolache scale (I have no frame of reference. , it's still the best thing to eat there.

Houston is central Texas?

I don't know about spoiled, but I am part Czech and have had some pretty killer homemade kolaches in my life. It's why I can't imagine a Bucees-made kolache even comparing to most of what's out there. It's probably decent if I had to guess. Their food is generally of good/great quality.

Close enough. Lemme Czech my map.

What about kolach vs. klobasnek?

I did reply, we went mid afternoon. I didn't understand that Stanleys was another bar right in front of the brewery. Apparently I didn't see any signs either. Waited 45min to get to the front of the line to discover they had no JK beers on tap. Sort of set an irked mood for the rest of the time there. my wife, my brother and I split 4 samples at one of the JK outside bars, then left. They said it was beyond crowded and one of the workers said that due to their popularity they're thinking of adding more outside bars soon. Very nice location and we had fun but I can't see my self returning soon. /sacrilege.

I meant hit the "reply" button on my post. That way I get a notification. Otherwise I may not see your comment. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Happens a lot here.

Sounds like you had a below average experience. It was extremely busy this weekend. Come back another time when it's not valentine's or a crazy release and I promise you'll have a blast. I agreed Stanley's line was insane. I skipped it when I got there at night and went straight for some bottles.

Living in Houston so lots more to explore in Austin. I saw you'd be there later and our times wouldn't match so I didn't give it much more thought. I did run into people there I know from Houston. Probably be back but that's a long round trip for beer.
