Touch_My_BrettSacch can you (or anyone else) recommend decent bar and bottle shop within a short distance of Capital Factory. From what I understand my hotel is in the same building complex they are. I'm not going to be too mobile, but I'd be willing to cab it if the recommendation was good enough. In town this Friday and Saturday if there's anything special I should be on the lookout for. First ATX trip. Thanks for any guidance.

Staying at the Omni I guess then huh? My girlfriend actually works for Capital Factory, what are you in town for? mwbbq really hit most of the best one. Easy Tiger is a great restaurant and bar close to you on East 6th, Craft Pride and Bangers are on Rainey Street which is a really quick cab or a 15 min walk. Craft Pride has a little bottle shop connected to it but it is a bit higher in price than most other places. I live on Rainey street and am always down to meet for a beer if you go that route.

As for bottle shops, mwbbq nailed it with Which Craft, East 1, and Whip In. Those are all a quick cab/uber away. South Lamar Wine and Spirits will sometimes have some cool stuff, and its right down the road from Which Craft.

Having super old RuinTen on tap at World of Beer really blew. They need to rotate and send back old beer, it doesn't do craft beer justice to hype it up when it's a faded she'll of its former self. Was at Watson's as well, no real comment there.

What's the best beer bar in Houston?

Yeah, I've considered taking down World of Beer and Taps of Beer from the Katy and Washington pages. Not related but many complaints of old IPA's. They'll have some good events but the old IPA complaints are frequent.

Give them a shot. I tried it on draft at their open house on Sunday and thought it was great so I'm interested to see how it is in bottles. I also like the Camo, Toby G's, Sleepy Hollow, and Aloha Piña. I don't love all their beers, but I appreciate that they are innovative with their flavor combinations.

Such a bummer. The last thing you want to serve to someone who may be new to craft brewing is an old faded beer that may turn them off forever. Only serve fresh high quality beer (unless it was meant to be aged, then include the vintage).

are all craft bars required to have the same names? Or are these places owned by the same guys that own Blind Tiger and the Gingerman in NYC?

I live on Rainey street and am always down to meet for a beer if you go that route.

The Gingerman Houston opened in 1985. As it grew successful, the owner brought a similar concept to other parts of Texas, and then, after moving back to Manhattan, he opened one there in 1996. As time went by, he would later sell the Texas branches to another party in order to focus fully on the Manhattan branch. Hence the similar names and decor.

Enjoying a growler of 2013 WBADPP. Seriously, I think this is the most underrated beer in Texas. Great fresh and SOOOOOO good with a year+ on it!

Just looked online at the draft picks tap selection.

Pretty decent for a sports bar, figure its a good place for food and drink before the lewis black show at the paramount

I opened my last bottle of 2012 at Nobis a few months ago and it was the best non lambic beer of the day. Didn't gush, no carb issues and it was so creamy and delicious.

This is the beer that everybody loves to hate all year long but it always sells out in one day.

I've seen Yellow Rose popping up still, and I'm wondering if this is the same batch (so 1 or 2 months old now) or a new batch. I did not see any mark on the bottle I saw at Whole Foods (which had Velvet Merkin last night).
Anyone know? Anyway to tell bottle date?

A local brewer made a subtle comment along the lines of "....waiting until we have access to Bruery beers here" that was worded in a way that suggested that it won't be that long of a wait.

Thats what I'm assuming the sauce was, anyway.

Yeah don't want to put anyone on blast, but it was a local brewer, though it was worded even more strongly than this. "They're going to be sending their beers to Texas soon."

We'll be at the fest all day Saturday, so breweries are out.

Check out B-52 brewery and/or Lone Pint if you have time. B-52 is a new brewery with a great outdoors atmosphere (kinda like Jester King in the Piney Woods) and some solid offerings. They are draft only, you'll see their stuff at bars in the area too.

Go to Red Brick Tavern in downtown Conroe for dinner. Probably the best restaurant in Conroe and they have 12 craft taps.

There's also Texas Beer Garden in Magnolia with about 50 taps and decent bar food.

Or venture a little further south to Hop Scholar in the Woodlands area. Craft spot with 50 taps, growler fills, and a few bottles (BA Narwhal and BA Bomb may still be in stock) for onsite or to go. No food, but they'll let you bring your own in and there's plenty of restaurants nearby that will deliver. Goose's Acre in the Woodlands is solid too, but you'll have to deal with the douchiness of the waterway if you go there.

As for shops, the HEB in Conroe (336 & 105) is best bet close to you.

HEB on 1488 between Magnolia and the Woodlands has a good selection too. A ton of Yellow Rose bottles, but I think they are all old. Fresh Yellow Rose bottles are supposed to hit the area today. There's also 2 good HEBs in the Woodlands and Hubbell & Hudson Kitchen is a fast casual food spot with growler fills and a small market. They get limited bottles sometimes and people tend to forget to look there.

There are several Specs in the area, but most are small and disappointing. I think there's a new one in Conroe, and the one at 45 & Rayford/Sawdust doesn't suck.

Definitely going to be hunting for YR as well because it keeps selling out immediately in Austin. ChukHell said they got 1 case in so far at his (huge) craft beer department in ATX, which is beyond ridiculous to me, lol.

But yeah, we can't leave till 7pm or so tonight (my wife has to work overtime because her company doesn't get holiday pay [lol]), so I might be able to get into a bar or HEB either late tonight or late tomorrow night before we drive home.

Heads up to my Houston homies: Old Forester Birthday Bourbon is finally showing in stock at Houston Downtown specs. I'm hopefully headed there in a few hours to grab a bottle. I'm also willing to swap scotch or other bourbon for it if I happen to miss it.
