I guess the official answer is no to the question "Does anyone give a **** about Abnormal post Derek?"

That price was just silly, IMO. 500ml is a pint, plus an ounce. For a similar concept - non-barrel aged, heavy adjunct, huge stout - MT charges $8 per can. I just couldn't do it.

To each their own, of course.

Yeah, that works if abnormal beer isn't normally that price point, but it is, and has sold out in mere seconds before.

Yeah, I get it... I guess. Easier sell if it were the 22oz bottles. Just personal preference here. Obviously still an easy sell for Abnormal.

nevermind, lol ignored content

It was the M4 bottle release yesterday that had little to no hype behind it, almost no public information about it, took 2.5hrs to sell out even though Abnormal "didn't think it would even make it to public sales", and honestly didn't even taste that good when it was on for Mostra's 4th anniversary up at Urge IMO.

M3 was $26/22oz ($1.18/oz) while M4 is $20/16.9oz ($1.18/oz)...unless you specifically want more beer out of each bottle, I'm not seeing how a 22oz format makes it an easier sell unless you totally ignore the price per ounce.

I am with you 100% and honestly glad it didn't insta sell out. There shouldn't be support at > $1/oz for non BA beer.

Guess I remembered the price incorrectly.

At this point, Abnormal bottles are only good for trade bait and nothing more.

I might go after the BA version of M4 and see if the barrel helped to lessen the honey attack on my taste buds.....but then I may wisen up and skip it entirely. I still have a few buddies that went into the membership, as well as my boss, and are all regretting it already. I think they are going to use most of the bottles, as arren said, as trade bait...maybe open up a couple of them with friends or grand ol bbq shares, but otherwise....I would expect quite a few of them to be traveling to the EU in exchange for some lambic.

They are regretting already because the bottles didn't sell out in seconds?

Yeah, Big Poppa is doing the heavy lifting there.

Which I find funny because Big Poppa b2 is trash.

Regretting because of how the membership all started off and after tasting some of Nyle's rebrews of Derek's recipes. They don't care how fast it sells out, they get presale.

As long as they stick with the same formula, should be good such as maple mornings. Also Derek had a hand in a few of the BA ones in the tanks.

I do remember people were saying Bottle Logic will SUCK after the head brewer left . Since at the time they only had 1 big hit, Fundamental Observation. Apparently he left his "magic" with Bottle Logic when he left, and those people were wrong. I wonder where he went ?

I have not had any of abnormal stouts, other than maple mornings on tap when I've been there a few times. Looking forward to try their bottles this year.

Derek's last treated beer was M4...the first time around, not sure if what is in bottles was his treatment. Derek still has a few bases left in barrels like All of the Lights, and I believe M3...but those are currently untreated. I am skeptical, but I would love to be proven wrong.

I did hear that the new Maple Mornings was lacking the maple punch that it use to have, which might be good...I did find it a bit over the top and too sweet before (according to my notes).

Why so skeptical, when the head brewer leaves? It is not uncommon in the industry, seems to be typical .

Not even good for that anymore... I have a bunch just sitting. No one wants them.
That sucks. I had a few trades for Brew 2000 lined up when all the M's came out a couple months ago, but I couldn't snag any so that fell through.

C'mon guys, stop trading for anything other than Cantillon and other lambic we can't get here.
Trading for lambic gets annoying because people want to trade according to secondary prices, which is ********. I shouldn't have to trade one limited, hard to get pastry stout for fruited lambic that sits on a shelf in another country.

Really, I should be selling my stouts at secondary and then just buying lambic, but that **** makes me feel dirty. If you're in any FB group that allows sales, you know the **** that people charge is just disgusting. I always expect to see people call the sellers out for gouging, instead there's ten replies of "oh PM sent" and "this'll get done."

Beer is ******* stupid.

Skeptical because the first beers I had of his were rather subpar.

The first beers, so regular stuff on draft? In all due respect, all their popular stuff from abnormal with their hype...has been their bottled offerings, if I'm not mistaken. Of course, correct me if I'm wrong.

I'd compare their regular stuff on draft, to most places. For example, on the average day at Bottle Logic - there is no reason to visit. Their regular stuff, is nothing worth writing about (or drink). Last weekend, I picked up my bottles of JtR and took off - as JtR kicked the day before I arrived. I was fine heading to the bruery and enjoying their tap list.

That's my two cents, anyways.
Not trying to change your mind, and maybe you're right and they will fall off a cliff !

Will look forward to trying maple mornings the next time I visit SD.

You are correct, their regular draft offerings. And your comparison to BottleLogic is spot on, there really is no reason to drink their beers when the stasis beers are not on...hell even some of those, like the pumpkin stuff, can do DIAF.

Sell then buy has been my preferred transaction as of late for those caliber beers. Too much ******* and people trying to win trades otherwise.
