Trying to put emotion aside, and study the details of thr Alesmith club a bit better:

$375 for only 3 of the 5 being barrel aged?? And all 5 of those “exclusive” beers could end up on tap at Alesmith? The fact that they regularly put BA bottles on tap and for sale to go makes it easier to forgo a membership. I can just continue at my leisure visiting Anvil & Stave at a far cheaper cost.

Are they really going to do anything that different from status quo? It’s almost all speedway variants. I’m very bored of that and honestly have been skipping many of the bottle sales (except Velvet & Double) for some time. They need to say more about what beers are being offerred.

Yeah, I wanted to be excited for this one but I can't justify it. I'd rather cherry pick $375 worth of Speedway variants throughout the year. The main thing I like in these clubs is exclusivity. If that isn't there, what's the point? So I don't get a bottle to take home, but I can go buy a pour instead. Seems to be a better way to spend the money. And I really don't like "TBD" perks. O'well. There are enough of these clubs around now that I'm sure there'll be plenty of openings next year if it ends up being worth it.

I don't mind the on draft part, I also don't mind the ":can purchase for onsite consumption" part since at least a non-member wouldn't be able to take it out the door.

The cost is a bit much, I guess my suggestions were either dismissed or just didn't get up to the powers that be. I do think it is rushed, hell, they still haven't let the Foundry members know about it and I think a few of them aren't even on the usual mailing list.

I will still likely go get a membership, because I am a sucker, and I hate money....at least the way I see it, it can't possibly be worse than how the Mikkeller club started off, right? RIGHT!?!?!?

I heard they didn't even have a name for the thing until this last week. It's kind of a disaster.

Hey at least their label looks fine tuned and professional and not like something thrown together in powerpoint

Right? so bad. And they're going to put that on a shirt that no one will wear? Who wears work shirts from breweries they don't work at?

I have a Jolly Pumpkin one that I bought probably around 2010. I don't wear it anymore.

I mainly don't wear it because I have gotten fatter and it doesn't fit me that well.

Except the Mikkeller one was half the price for 8 BA beers (2x 4 different beers)?

A bit more than half, but yes 8 BA beers that almost immediately went on draft for consumption by anybody. I more meant how it was run at the beginning for roughly 4-6months. Constantly just looking at price tags and not everything else that is involved seems to be the norm. Yes it is expensive, yes it is overpriced, but will communication be there on Day 1? That is why I am comparing it.

Communication is key so is the product which I am sure will be on point at Alesmith, unlike the last Mikkeller berserker beer. Althought that viking 6 bottle was great.

Ah ****, double post because I spent too much time researching Mikkeller. Figured since I am using it as a comparison I better come correct with the information. First year was $200 (this part might be off, I know year 2 was $200 for the regular viking level), we spent nearly 4 months without a peep. The promise was 8 bottles (4x2).

2 BA (No. 1 and No. 2)
2 non-BA (No. 3 and No. 4)

No swag but that 15% discount was pretty nice.

Edit: I can't even find the email where I bought the membership initially, communication was that bad. The first email we received after we paid in April of 2016 was September 5th, 2016. Going that long basically knowing nothing about what you just paid a couple hundred bucks for is pretty terribad imo.

I haven't heard anything from wild barrel since purchasing, although that membership doesn't start until Jan.

I tend to not expect communication until the membership begins, maybe a little "hello we haven't forgotten about you" a couple weeks prior but otherwise I don't expect it. As for Mikkeller, I expected communication to not become nonexistent for 5 months AFTER it started. I feel that was them attempting to come out of the gate strong without anything to back it up.

Yeah for sure, I expected them to send SOMETHING by now. All I have gotten was a receipt for my payment. Seems like it would behoove them to point out that our 10% discount in the tasting room is already good to go.

Yeah, that is a nice early gift from them and was entirely unexpected. Lost Abbey is doing the same thing for their online purchases, but the tasting room discount has to wait until Jan. I assume to get the POS systems configured and to have general lists of the names of members before the ID cards go out.

Yeah I was really surprised when they said that the discount applies now.

Glad I stocked up on IRS over the years since they no longer make it. And that's a damn shame. Probably Stone's best beer.

'member when it was #1 on BA?
Stone doesn't make it anymore? That's crazy, had no idea. If anybody wants some, I'm pretty sure I've got at least at least a mixed case of 2011-2013, and then a couple random older bottles too. Will trade for negra modelo

Hmm, are you sure about the beers? I could have sworn #3 was the triple brunch coffee aged in bourbon barrels.

I definitely agree communication was lacking at the beginning of that membership but I guess they didn't really promise us anything outside of those bottles (well, other than those membership cards which never showed up). The ability to purchase cans a day before the public was a nice perk when they got the canning line up and running.

The label on the bottle doesn't list it being BA, just a triple coffee oatmeal stout. Also no mention of it being BA in the emails on Jan 3rd, 10th, and 17th of 2017.

I talked to doctor bill over the weekend. He said we would be getting an email in January going over the program with us with bottles probably being available in February.

I agree this is confusing but it was released the same time as that sale of the BA Beer Geek Brunch so I may have mistakenly assumed it was also aged in barrels:

Untappd says it's barrel-aged as well (but it's not the most reliable source I know). So in conclusion, I really have no idea. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
