Not sure about anyone else, but this is exciting news to me:

Nope, just you. :D

I vaguely remember that show. Like any other TV remakes, they probably have good intentions, but will jack it up in a way that angers true "V" followers.

I remember that show. It seemed like a cool show as a kid, but I'm sure if I watched old re-runs now, it would probably be pretty hokey. Somehow I doubt the new one will be any good. Why can't Hollywood come up with new ideas rather than re-hashing old crap all the time?

This is exactly how I feel. I remember really enjoying the original, but now I bet it would be pretty lame.

I think part of the charm of the original is just like any other new show, people get wrapped up in it and cant wait to find out what happens and what twists there will be. I'm sure they will come up with some changes to it, but the base story will probably be the same.

Didnt they eat kittens or babes or something?
I thought they ate rats...somehow I remember the tails being sucked in at the last second...

Anywho, I have the DVD of the original miniseries. The main star is Marc Singer (The Beastmaster, the one with the ferrets...), 1983, 196 mins, no James Caan mentioned...;)

Nope, doesn't ring any bells. I did sort of have a life during the 80's so I could've missed it. It looks like a show I would've watched though.
When in the 80's did it run? I don't recall seeing the date on the link.

This revised series has been in turnaround for years.
Interesting that NOW, someone has committed to it.

Gotta be honest -- My expectations will be low for this.

I suspect that someone is trying to cash in on the Battlestar Galactica process. You know, take an old forgotten Sci-fi TV show and "Re-imagine" it? Now I love the new BSG, but they have their work cut out for them if they think that V is going to be very good.

The original mini-series (1983) was only a two episode "movie". The 2nd mini-series called "V: The Final Battle" (1984) was just 3 episodes. Then they produced a short lived series of 1 hour episodes for TV in the 84/85 season. The TV series was lack luster at best, but I thought the mini-series were pretty good. If it could be redone (ala BSG) I think it would be great.

The whole premis of fractruring a society through propoganda and fear-mongering to gain power and control is an ever present danger and one that has been used throught history.

sounds like Fox News

And the Washington Post, and democrats, and republicans, and jihadists, and socialists, and communists, and.....

Without being political, my point was that sometimes it sticks when the social environment is ripe, as 'V' portrays. It is a very old theme in the struggles of mankind, fighting oppression of all flavors.

You are right, I avoid all the doom and gloom BS myself. I just am exposed to FN more because of extended family watching it 24/7

I loved watching V when I was a kid though

I loved the show. I especially remember it more for the all the hot big haired 80's chicks then anything else...even the aliens.

By the way, the James Caan one was Alien Nation Alien Nation (TV series) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

But Caan was only in the Movie, NOT the tv-series.

ANd there wasn't any 80's big hair on anyone, especially the alien chicks...though I think there was a lizard headed stripper, or prostitute that was sorta hot....
