Sometimes I wonder what people are thinking when they open a brewery, I don't even think it's me or other beer enthusiasts being pricks but some of these places are popping up for the sake of bandwagon jumping without actually having a passion for good beer. This place is grayling, dead bear brewing, they dumped a **** load of money into the place and have a nice smallish set up,food is average and the beer is just poor... they have other breweries beer on tap as well...Tri city brewing, opening brand new place, **** sucks. Like so far off it's sad. I've had three or four good beers from them but yet ppl flock there.Falling Down Brewery in Warren makes awful beer. I mean, Ninja Chicken is decent enough I suppose, but I had their breakfast stout and harvest ale today and both were terrible, and others I've had from them before have underwhelmed.
Too bad, because their food is pretty damn good.

Somehow, their beer sucks more than Falling Down.Sometimes I wonder what people are thinking when they open a brewery, I don't even think it's me or other beer enthusiasts being pricks but some of these places are popping up for the sake of bandwagon jumping without actually having a passion for good beer. End rant.

Crankers always comes to mind. There a brewery on the other side of the state, called Kitzingen, located in Wyoming (next to Grand Rapids), and it is the perfect case of people without a passion for or knowledge of beer jumping in and relying a lack of discernment by consumers. I showed up one day to try out their products, and since the place was essentially dead (the only other patron being a drunk relative of the owner) the owner/brewmaster started chatting to me about the brewery. And in the process he let slip that:
1) He, the head brewer, had zero commercial brewing experience.
2) His only homebrewing experience was trying, unsuccessfully (by his own admission), to make a good hefeweizen when he was stationed in Germany three decades earlier.
3) Save for hefeweizens, he didn't really like beer.
He just had a bunch of cash from operating a mortgage company and wanted to put it into something. And since Wyoming proper had no breweries or brewpubs until his disaster opened up, it seemed like a safe bet.
Can I use this post to say **** Griffin Claw? Because **** them and their ******* beer and ******** way of running a brewery.Transient is the perfect model in my eyes, small opening coast comparatively speaking, tons of styles basically made to perfection and a guy who you can tell loves Making beer, great beer.
Beard's. If Beard's was in metro Detroit, I'd go twice a week. How hard can it be to have a place like that here? They aren't doing anything special, they just have a cool space and make nice (not spectacular) beer.
I don't like Transient. In b4 broke ass palate.Transient is the perfect model in my eyes, small opening coast comparatively speaking, tons of styles basically made to perfection and a guy who you can tell loves Making beer, great beer.

They brought something to the Funk Factory and friends party for GTMW that was ... kimchi. The word I will use is kimchi.I've been there twice and have yet to have something that is "bad" or even just "Good" for me they are the best brewery in Michigan and it's not even close. Something for everyone there.
Ya haven't had anything from them that is kimchi. Obligatory cromulent juice Is loose, prob the best ipas in the state, Buckley is amazing, their Berliners n gose are out of this world....They brought something to the Funk Factory and friends party for GTMW that was ... kimchi. You liked the beer at Cultivate more than the beer at Transient? Cultivate definitely has one of the nicest settings (that serves mediocre beer). That said, if someone doesn't like fruited sours, brett ales, rich fudgy/coffee stouts, and NE style IPA's I could see how someone wouldn't like Transient.I enjoyed the hell out of Cultivate in ... nope, that's not a town. BFE.
I have enjoyed plenty of beers in those styles made by other folks and even a few made by Transient. But having more ****** samples than good is no reason to go hang out someplace, even if folks swear they got better. There are too many other choices. You can like who you like and I can like who I like and you don't have to try to bully me into liking your place. It's okay. I swear. You liked the beer at Cultivate more than the beer at Transient? No bullying intended. I was just surprised because you are probably the first person I have seen that has been critical of Transient, that's all.I have enjoyed plenty of beers in those styles made by other folks and even a few made by Transient. As far as taste, Transient's more tart stuff is closer to De Garde than the beers you mentioned. I say this knowing full well you also don't like De Garde.I am aware that it is an unpopular opinion. But I think if I could recall which keg came to the Funk Factory and friends party, I wasn't the only person who thought it was gross. Most of the rest comes back to me being oversensitive to diacetyl, and I have picked up butter off their sours.. I don't like the sisters or Wild One either (curse the day I thought it was a good idea to do a taste bending party with the sisters!) Which goes back to what I initially said. Broke ass palate.
But Haymarket is coming, and I want pizza. As far as taste, Transient's more tart stuff is closer to De Garde than the beers you mentioned. I say this knowing full well you also don't like De Garde.
I still think you should give the brewpub a shot if you haven't yet. It's on the way back from your seemingly monthly trip to Michigan and not that far from fear025's family abode. It's a cool spot.
You can say balls.Saw that SE MI is getting Central Waters BB stuff now. Call me basic bitch but that tickles me where I itch.
Meh. We disagree on beer and that is okay.Haymarket
Looks like the entire state, bought some of their BBA Scotch Ale in Grand Rapids last week. I really like their BBA Cherry Stout, have to find out when that is released.Saw that SE MI is getting Central Waters BB stuff now. Call me basic bitch but that tickles me where I itch.
