Same Same Different is fantastic and I agree on the food. But it seems like they're a haze factory and are turning into Tired Hands pretty quickly.
they've got some mixed ferm sours coming soon apparently that i'm hoping are good and i tried their speciation collab at the nucleate fest which was incredible. they're still super new relatively speaking which i feel like i forget some times because they blew up so fast.

I’ve like everything I’ve had from them hazy or not. They are what they are. The most impressive thing is the brewer was at right brain for several years....

Did they keep him chained in the basement or somtsomet? Right Brain is one of the most consistently disappointing breweries out there, IMO.

That was kind of my point. When I heard that I couldn’t believe it. You don’t have to love HOMES but it’s light years better than right brain...in every aspect. Even more incredible the owner has zero brewery experience at all. Brewing or owning. He gives the brewing team no limit financially on ingredients.

Not that I had a large enough sample size to make a strong comparison yet, but so far the only Homes beers I've enjoyed have been collabs with Transient and Speciation. Didn't care for Drops, Leafy Leafy or Tiki Sherbet. Based on those three (so again, an admittedly very small sample size), I'd take Right Brain's predictable mediocrity over it any day.

They have made a great amount of progress since then I presume. Transient is great, terribly inconsistent imo. Speciation is a beast but it’s sours only, HOMES just nails it’s across the board for me. Although their coffee cream ale is for me less than desirable, not a bad beer at all just not my cup of tea. All three of them are the tops for me right now and order could depend on a multitude of factors!!!

Apparently Old Nation is going to start distributing to Denver.

I do not see this working out for them.

Apparently they have been sending beer out of state since March, and not just to Denver. IL is getting some, which makes sense, but so too is VT and the city of Atlanta. Only 120 cases a month leave the state though. This information comes from a Lansing State Journal article from earlier in the month.

Old Nation is dumb.

While I agree that the hazy IPA's are overrated, I was pretty impressed by the brewery / taproom itself.

The non IPA beers were all pretty solid, and I had a Vienna Lager that was world class. Reasonably priced draft and food as well and if I was a local it would certainly be a mainstay in my rotation.

Liked the taproom quite a bit. Food was very good. OG boxer was a great beer and they've ruined it with whatever new name they've given it now.

And if you were a local, would you have any other option?

Drive 35 mins and go to MEAT. Drink whatever they have and have the best bbq in Michigan.

Slows has always been my go to Sunday going home meal if I'm not doing a Schramms brunch, but haven't been to Lansing in a very long time.

Anything in particular you recommend?

I usually get a sampler brisket and ribs, pulled pork is great and rotate sides, the creamed corn is great. Girl friend always gets smoked turkey sandwich and that’s always great.. The owner takes pride in his work and it shows. Great sauce, usually nice tap list.
