I really have to commend Kuhnhenns. I doubted them every step of the way but they pulled it off.
Not so fast my friend! Kuhnhenn, as we all know, is gonna Kuhnhenn. Went over to the Clinton Twp location early this afternoon and there was a line out the door. WTF, I say to myself. Come to find out, a lot of their workers/servers didn't show up for work today. The place was about half full but you had to put your name on a list and wait to get a table!
We didn't stay.
I asked to speak to the manager and was told that they didn't know where he was. There was no one at the beer pickup station so I don't know how that was working.

I would like to think it had something to do with them calling one of their female employees a “beautiful girl” on Facebook yesterday, but we all knownit doesn’t. *sigh*

EDIT: sorry for spillover.

Well that praise lasted two whole days! Its a Solstice miracle!

I went to pick up my order a couple days ago. No lineup. But the lone soldier they had at the entrance (not sure if her main role was to seat people or what) but she had never done order fulfillment, no one had shown her up to that point, and no one came over to help her. Pretty ridiculous. Manager was on and the place was 1/10th full (as it was around 12:30pm).
While there were parts of the new place (my first visit) that were very Kuhnhenn and decent, the location is absolutely garbage (unless you live out that way), and the disorganization up in the front area is disappointing. Saw lots of 12oz howler jr/mini growler type things by the pallet in the back. Took a peak and place is a disaster zone.
While its fun to bash on Kuhnnhenn since they've been around so long and should know better, it really sucks that they seemingly have learned so little given whats going on around the scene.
And cans are all the rage... but the Witte Braggot and Imperial Amber were some of the first choices?

Ah well, got my fill of bbbw and ba4d. Thank god they haven't screwed those up yet.

FYI:

SCHRAMM’S MEAD “ELDERBERRY” VOLUNTARY PRODUCT RECALL

Schramm’s Mead of Ferndale, MI, is announcing a voluntary recall of 375 ml bottles of “Elderberry.” Since late December 2017, two customers have reported nausea and stomach upset after having consumed “Elderberry.” Out of an abundance of caution, Schramm’s Mead is recommending that customers who have a bottle of Schramm’s Mead “Elderberry” should not consume it. Customers are urged to return bottles to the Schramm’s Mead tasting room at 327 W. Nine Mile, Rd., Ferndale, Michigan for a full refund.

“Elderberry” was released between September 30, 2017 and December 6, 2017. Bottles were sold exclusively from Schramm’s Mead’s tasting room. It is a deep purple mead (honey wine) packaged in clear, 375 ml wine bottles. A two -line bottling date code of “Batch #1, 9/29/2017” appears in black ink on the bottom inch of the bottle. This is the only batch of “Elderberry” released in bottles by Schramm’s Mead. There were 902 bottles sold. Production of the product has been suspended while Schramm’s Mead conducts an investigation and laboratory testing in cooperation with Michigan Department of Agriculture.

Consumers with further questions about this mead, or who live outside the metropolitan Detroit area, should email Schramm’s Mead at [email protected], or call Alyson Schramm Naeger at 248-439-5000 Extension 2.

Drank one last weekend with MarkIntihar lurchingbeast pasta hannydawg and I can report everyone is fine. Seems like everyone on FB is reaction to the potential for a compound that turns into cyanide in your body, but the same thing is true for cherry pits / apricot pits. You would need to consume so much of that product to have a negative reaction that I for one feel skeptical about this.

However, good on Schramms for issuing the voluntary recall (but I'll be holding on to my remaining bottle).

Does anyone have any idea how much BA4D was released this solstice? It doesn't seem like many people are looking to trade it, which seemed odd to me given the initial case limit. Also curious how many people got to sign up for a case before only 4 packs were available.

Hi

Heading up to the Detroit/Ann Arbor area later this week. Was looking for some suggestions from the locals on good breweries/bars/bottle shops to hit.

There is potential to make it to Old Nation and Founders in Detroit but other suggestions welcome

Cultivate in Ypsi is the best beer bar around. Gotta stop there. 8 Degrees Plato in Detroit for bottles and taps. Holiday Market in Royal Oak for bottles. Jolly Pumpkin in either Detroit or Royal Oak for pizza and taps (Detroit location is better). Hopcat in Royal Oak or Detroit for burgers and taps.

Thanks for the help/suggestions!

Are cans usually available at Old Nation itself?

Best guess is they'l have Boss Tweed and M-43. But those are both on shelves usually at the above mentioned stores, especially 43. Old Nation is still worth a trip, though. Nice space and good food.

No idea. Could have signed up for case but opted for just a 4 pack. Focused on the BBBW. Great as per usual.

I thought 17 was very good.
The previous vintage I had (15?) was great. Still is.
2014 too.
and so on....

Was there a **** year of BBBW?

Haven't had '17 but every year after '13 hasn't been nearly as good as previous years. I would say that 2013 was the year K-Bros went off a cliff. Sounds like things are getting better though.

I've only been drinking the bbbbbbbbbbbw since '12 so my history isn't as deep. Nor has my sophisticated palate been as mature as it is now to detect all the off years. ;)

I think 2017 is the best fresh BBBW that I have had. BA4D was good this year as well. Much better than 2015, which I did not think was very good.
