The Crooked Stave Cellar Reserve Thread

not quite dissipated in the bottles I opened recently.

I opened mine a couple months back and enjoyed them both. One still had a very small hint of diacetyl, but otherwise quite good. If my memory is correct I enjoyed the one with the peach pits more.

Batch 2 of Persica when bottled was a diacetyl bomb. Has since dissipated.

I was being sarcastic because I haven't had a hint of butter from those blends in a loooooong time.

Here is a Nightcap review from the other site and it sums up this beer perfectly. It was by far the worst beer CS has made, I'd drink the buttery Persicas all day before a Nightcap. If the beer drinker doesn't hook you up I have a few bottles I am never going to drink.

Appearance - Murky deep reddish brown body. Medium khaki head. Medium collar.

Smell - Lots of coffee. Sharp acidity. A little vinegar. Chocolate.

Taste - Intensely sour. Coffee. Sour coffee. Sourness builds. Coffee, roasted malt, and sourness.

Mouthfeel - Unpleasantly sour. Harsh.

Overall - So you're driving for hours on the highway and need some coffee. You stop at a 7-Eleven and the cashier has 4 teeth and grease stains on her shirt. You pour the coffee, even though you know it was made days ago with the cheapest, largest container of pre-ground coffee with a "Best by" date of 2003. In one sip, you taste an intense sour and bitter low-quality coffee with just a hint of roast from the cigarette ash that the cashier sprinkled out of the spite she has for the customer. Nightcap.

I posted this is a DDT a few months ago. I still feel this way:

"Holy Christ this beer is awful. It tastes like when you wake up hungover from a bourbon bender on a work day and drink some coffee because you need to wake up and go to work but the coffee turns on you and you end up puking sour bile and coffee.

Glad I've got five more bottles"

But just not worth it.. much less the hassle of getting my friend to ship all that garbage again.

I would have probably tried to find a way to finagle the Sinners Club I was offered over this (But DDB kinda ruined that for those of us that actually got the email/were previous members by just posting that to the world)

Same. No idea if those other beers are 375ml or 750ml either. I wouldn't put it past Crooked Stave to charge over 25$ for a 375ml beer.

I joined. Minus hazy IPAs, my beer tastes are still stuck in 2012 except for the access to all lambic on Etre Gourmet.

The $24-$38 750s are going to leave a mark but I doubt I’ll max out on the allocations.
