So exactly how do you get the wort in this state of the art bucket and clean it after it ferments?

The hawks are in the homebrew industry i see. Trying to scam money.

[ame]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1oLkp5LQc4s[/ame] this video is a joke. Warning: If you don't like to be lied to don't watch.

This is quite a bit of angst over a conical... do you find the offerings from SSBrewTech, Stout, or Blichmann equally unacceptable? I personally don't see the value in this product, but I know there are many who wanted the perceived convenience of a conical along with the joy of watching their beer ferment and the ability to cleanly harvest yeast. To each their own.

Yes, the video advertisement is cliche, but that is 99% of the content on Kickstarter. Also, it's not like Kickstarter is doing something new here. We've been watching ads just like this on TV for 30 years:

I'm apparently slow up the uptake. I don't see where they're lying. The only thing I saw that was a stretch was the assertion that a secondary is necessary (or a separate bottling bucket, though I do use one myself when i bottle). I didn't see any outright lies. The rest actually seemed pretty well-thought-out to me.
Its an expensive piece of plastic but seems pretty cool to me. I really like that its dishwasher safe and that its threaded for mason jars. Seems like a real nice way to re-use yeast.

This is not new. There has been another thread going for months. IMO there are no lies in the video. There is a reference to doing a secondary, which many skip these days. It is a conical. It is expensive, but not if you are comparing it to a stainless steel conical.

You may not need it but some will like it. I have the space so my 6 Better Bottles are a better value to me than one Catalyst.

How do you get the wort into it? Take off the top and add the wort. The same as you would with any other fermenter.

There are no lies in this video guys? Give me a break. You can't be listening.

"The most innovative piece of beer making equipment ever." One whopper.

Anyhow, i just don't like how our culture tolerates all the lies we are told on a daily has "business has usual".

Marketing used to be more honest and just laying out the facts of how it will be useful. Look up Edward Bernays if you have any interest.

I actually like the system but its way overpriced.

Have you ever seen an advertisement for a product before?
Each brewer has the option of choosing their own FV, sounds as if this one might not be for you but I am sure it checks all the boxes for others. No need to be a hatin...

Its not the product, its the methods they are using to sell it.

Its a neat system frankly. However, they don't tell you - you still have to fill the elevated bucket and clean it.

I would put forward that the simple auto siphon is just has "innovative" has this product however.

Then you have to put in on a counter or something to basically take advantage of the system.

One of the selling points is all the work the extra transfers take using a bucket or carboy. IE lifting up the buckets. Well this thing is on a stand and still has to be placed on a counter top. Its actually harder "work". Another lie.

Its a terrible ad. IMO They should of let the product stand on its own merits. If the price was lower i bet they would be selling thousands of these. I would buy one.

...like every other fermenter ever, you just don't have to transfer quite as much. I still don't see the lie/issue here. I feel like I'm always hauling fermenters around.

Its actually harder "work". Another lie.
I'm not sure that word means what you think it means :)

Me too. My only beef with it is its $200. If it was $89 I'd probably buy one today. To me, the ad does show off the merits. It looks like a breeze to clean. I can't get excited about that kinda dough for something that isn't stainless, but it does appear to be pretty well-thought-out.

Seriously, I don't see what about this ad is so over-the-top vs any other ad. My suggestion for you is don't buy one.

WHAT!?! It doesn't magically fill & clean itself? Outrageous I tell you.

Yeah on face value it seems like a silly argument.

But.. lol.. the ad starts out bragging about how successful they have been and then starts bashing carboys and buckets. They are rudimentary, ugly and more work etc. I don't see how this system is less work? Then they tell us how fermentation works, so i assume its either for new brewers or we are just so dumb we need people like them to tell us.

The ad is terrible. I think its a lesson in how not to do a commerical.

Anyhow folks, move on. :)

work is distance x force. So you have to get your wort higher off the floor to use this system.

Questions? lol

Its just a rant on advertising and lies/propaganda. And how its normalised in our culture.

If they drop the price i would buy one. The guys that made this product just probably hired some idiot(s) in the marketing industry to do this video.

I'll get off my soapbox! For now.... :D

No you don't....

Not a lie, just marketing... Highlight the good things, ignore the negatives.....

They have set a price that they think where they think they can make the most profit. I won't be buying one.

I just say there are no lies. Exaggerations, omissions, braggadocio... yes!!

No you don't....

I'm lost, you would keep the stand on the floor? You would transfer at that height? What a nightmare.

Why would it need to go on a counter to put the wort in it? Dang, if you put it on a counter to do that, wouldn't you need a step ladder to get on to lift your kettle high enough to pour the wort in?!?!?! Unless, of course, if you are using a pump, then it is a pretty moot point whether it is on the counter or not...I ALWAYS transfer my wort from my BK into my FV while the FV is on the floor..Easy peasy..

I have one on order and am looking forward to using it..And I just may start harvesting yeast now with the butterfly valve at the bottom of this CONICAL..BTW, that brings to my mind one of the main reasons the unit is on the pricey side..It's the butterfly valve, those things are pricey..Okay, back to drinking my beer..Carry on...

I think he meant lift it up onto a counter to bottle or keg it... but, the same can be said with carboys, buckets, and every other conical...so there's really no valid argument.

I think you might want to actually look at the history of marketing and advertising. There's a reason questionable products are called "snake oil". Advertisements are more realistic now than they were historically.

The "most innovative" is their opinion of their product. It isn't a lie.

Just forget this whole post folks if you haven't already :D

If you can use this system on the floor yeah my whole argument falls apart.

However, marketers lie all the time, its not better then it was and it shouldn't be ok IMO.

I think it looks like a pretty cool product. While it does look cool there are a few things keeping me from trying it:

-$200 is a lot of money when my existing buckets and carboys work just fine

-I would be afraid that opening the valve to release trub or yeast would burp air up into fermenting beer leading to contamination

-If I put anything into a secondary like chocolate extract, peppers, fruit, etc., I like to transfer the beer on top of this with a siphon to make sure it all mixes well throughout.

Just my 2 cents.

True, with everything you said...I do that as well...On the kitchen table when it is bottling or kegging time...

My goodness. Marketing is all about influence and persuasion. Some of you are not persuaded, others would buy it, but the price point is beyond your perceive rd value. Putting spin about certain features being better or easy (even if to you it may not be) is marketing! How are you going to fill an ss brewbucket? Don't take it personally.
