Just wanted to drop a line to everyone here at HBT and say thank you for putting together such a fantastic resource for homebrewing. I've been lurking since Christmas and slowly pieced together my kit 100% from what I read here on this site.
I had done some extract brewing with friends and was about to buy a starter kit when I stumbled upon this site. I was intrigued (to say the least) with the all grain process and picked up a copy of How to Brew along with the Stepping Into All Grain video by BasicBrewing.com. I'm a patient guy with a high aptitude for ambiguous detail so said what the hell and dove right in. I'm now five batches in (in five weekends) and have already produced some pretty awesome results.
I've had my fair share of freak out moments that I wasted/ruined a batch or took the wrong step, but in all honesty there hasn't been a single question that I've not been able to get answered by just searching this site or referring back to Palmer's book. I've made some batches with real solid efficiency and some others with real low--surprisingly they've all turned out to taste really good regardless. It's really made me a true believer in RDWHAHB approach and that my process/quality only gets better with every batch.
So anyways, my name is Phil, I live on the west side of Portland and will likely look to join a local brew club here shortly as my wife is getting really tired of me talking to her about beer every waking moment of the day. If anyone is in the area and wants to hook-up for a brew session, please don't hesitate to send me a PM. I'm particularly interested in finding another fellow fly sparger to bounce techniques off of.
Thanks again to every contributor here, you've really made it easy to turn my curiosity into an obsession. I'll leave this with some shots of my setup so far!
