Ok so I just racked an american brown ale to secondary for dry hoping and in the process siphoned a gallon into a gallon jug so I can play with it. I want to simulate some time in a bourbon barrel much like Tyranena's Rocky's Revenge. I was thinking about soaking a little less then half an ounce of medium toast chips in some makers mark and then tossing in the chips. How long should this be done for? It's an OG 1.070 brown ale Page 143 of Brewing Classic Styles if you have it.

If you want oak like rocky's revenge, then I'd suggest 2-3 weeks of oaking.

By the way...did you hear about tyranena having to dump 1/3 of their new batch of hop whore? Horrible thing to have to do.

Apparently he couldn't get the 3rd batch to fully ferment, so rather than risk mixing it with the other two and producing a beer different from his past beers, he took the hit and dumped the one. He said he'd rather have one good batch that's a little smaller than a really big crappy batch.

Ok I just bottled the test batch today. I ended up soaking .5oz of cubes in bourbon for a week then tossing just the chips into the 1 gallon jug. After a week I bottled and threw a shot of bourbon in at bottling as well (should have thrown the soaked bourbon in but I was worried about to much bourbon).
