I was experimenting to see if I could stick a keg into my upright freezer, I plugged a temperature control voltage regulator in it and and set it for 34 degrees. It held the temp for a few days then the freezer shut down.

I disconnected the voltage regulator and and plugged freezer into wall and nothing. This was a 10 year old kenmore freezer that we used for wild game/fish, and extra foods. My wife is pissed, she blames me for blowing it up.

Can you use the temp controlled VR's for auto defrost freezer? It really shouldn't need to go into defrost mode at 34 degrees....unless it is set on a timer.

Did my freezer just die or did I mess it up? It's in the landfill now but inquiring minds want to know.

Freezers die, just like the rest of us, only freezers rarely get autopsies. It is possible that your regulator caused your freezer to cycle on and off too often. If it was on its last legs to begin with, that could have done it in.
