Brewed yesterday, and as the boil is finishing up, I realize that my immersion coil has split open. Apparently I didn't drain it entirely. So it's now sitting outside covered after being hit with sanitizer all over.

My plan was to warm it up tonight, then cool it down with ice and get it into the fermenter.

How high do I need to bring the temp? Full boil?

Cheers!

If it split open in the wort while it was still boiling (depending on how long it was boiled) I would think you should be fine as is.

That being said, if you were still worried about it, 10-15 mins at ~165 should do it.

Or you could just re-boil for about 10 mins to be absolutely sure that you killed anything and everything that was in the coil/beer

it is accepted that bacteria die at 165, certain viruses can survive up to 212
