I have this oven thermometer for meats and such:

I am trying to come up with a way I can temporarily mount this inside of my brew kettle. It doesn't need to be anything fancy, but I would really like a way to monitor my temperatures more easily without needing to dangle the probe into the liquid and hope that it doesn't fell against the side or drop to the bottom.

Any ideas?

Thanks all!

A thermowell is the more permanent answer. A simpler solution is to water proof the temperature sensor with a bit of sealing shrink tube (the stuff with the goo on the inside that melts out when you heat it) then drill a hole in the lid of your kettle. Most turkey fryer pots have this existing hole already and this is how I made due for quite some time.

Else you could build some sort of float for the sensor, think like a fishing bobber.

What I do is take a wine bottle cork cut it roughly in half lengthwise, and push the probe through so that the round side of the cork is down. Good idea to make a pilot. Hole with a nail or something.

There is enough weight keep the probe tip submerged.
