Probably a silly question - but I am going to be really short on time the next few months and am dying to get another brew going..

I made this PM Belgian Dubbel a few months back and it is amazing!

I want to make it again, but if I went with the extract version...

Do you think I would find much taste difference?

I am very pleased with the PM that I made, it probably has the most depth of flavor of any beer that I have made. But if I can save some time without compromising much on the extract that will work better for me right now.

Oh.. Let me throw one more question in while we are here.. The kits from this vendor are the first that I have seen that specify adding half the malt extract at the beginning of the boil and half in the last 15. It seems to work great, but what is the advantage?

Im somewhat of a beginner myself but I studied a lot of sourses and from what I been able to understand you get better hop utillaztion from a less dense wart, this may be one advantage.

I went PM after my second batch and AG a few batches later. A lot of people make great beer with extract, but I prefer having more control over my recipe. Only one way to find out though.

I believe the greatest benefit from late boil extract additions is a reduction of carmelization of the extract which can affect your color and flavor. When I was PM, I would only use my mash wort for the majority of boil (50-70% of the grist) and add the extract with 15 minutes left.

The lower gravity of the boil does result in greater hop utilization, so reduce your hops unless greater hop utilization is good thing :)

From what I can see, the PM recipe includes some munich malt and the extract version doesn't. The Aromatic needs to be mashed, which it won't in the extract version, but will still impart some malt flavor/aroma. This might give some more body and slightly higher FG, but at 4 oz. should be minimal difference. The mash temperatures of your PM would have a bigger impact on body/FG. Really, the yeast will be accountable for most of the flavor in this beer.

I would give it a go and see how it comes out. Please post back- I hope this will turn out as good as the PM version!

Cheers.
