Tap tower hose threaded end?

I am installing a tap tower this weekend and it has a hose that terminates with a threaded wing style nut. What is this for? I want to make sure before I cut it off and put the hose on a barb connector.

If you're just using homebrews, yep. You might also consider something like this (http://www.northernbrewer.com/brewing/tail-piece-1-4-mfl.html) in the future if you want to dispense a commercial keg. This allows you to unscrew from your ball lock and connect to a Sankey.
