Making a trip later this year and would like to show off my homebrew to family. Can I pack a few bottles in luggage that will be checked in?

I've done it. Never had a problem. First few times in glass bottles. Lately in PET bottles (they're lighter, and can't shatter.)

Brew on :mug;

Reason I ask is this quote from TSA web page...."Alcoholic beverages with more than 24% but not more than 70% alcohol are limited in checked bags to 5 liters (1.3 gallons) per passenger and must be in unopened retail packaging." Homebrew won't have "retail packaging". LOL

I've had surprisingly good luck even with unlabeled bottles. TSA searches the bag, but I've never had any confiscated.

I'll give it a try...Would hate to think some TSA guy drinking my homebrew instead of family. LOL I was gonna wrap it in bubble wrap and put in a zip lock bag....But that might be hard if they wanna look close and begin tearing it open.

Different situation as flying inside europe but never had any problem, as AZ_IPA said socks + ziplock bag works fine.

Or even better nappies if you have a toddler. :D

Homebrew is going to be less that 24%, so that restriction does not apply.

I put them in a ziplock bag and stuff them everywhere. Inside of shoes, wrapped in shirts, and you can wrap two in a pair of pants (one in each pant leg). Let your imagination soar and bring some homebrew. I do like the idea of PET bottle though. Good idea.

I go to Amsterdam twice a year to check on my house and see friends, and always bring back bottles of Belgium's finest. I just spread them out in my bag and wrap them in clothing. No issues or broken bottles ever....

Fun sidetrack ...
I was carting beer carry-on from Germany back in the '90's long before security had a problem with it. On one trip, I filled a military Alice pack and one laundry bag full of Erdinger Dunkel. Sixteen 22oz. bottles if I recall.
The German X-ray tech heard the bottles clink and asked "Was ist das?"
"Beer", I replied.
He laughed and passed me through. Nowadays, it's not so easy doing that, you'll end up on their security lists. As a matter of fact, on my way home through Germany, I left a folding Buck knife in my dufflebag by accident and that happened.

Wife works for the airlines. Sealed and bottled homebrew is OK for checked baggage, but be careful taking them carry-on. Sometimes security will be prickly. There's a travel limit. After one Philly International Beer competition, a few people were carrying beer home via airline travel and I ended up getting some Costa Rican saison and some Dale's Pale Ale in a can.
Yep, that's where your confiscated and surrendered beer went ... to me. :)

I've checked glass bottles. Though an insulated thermous is where it's at, stays cold and is ready to go upon arrival.
