Taking a 5 gallon extract or partial mash kit and then splitting it into 2 separate fermentors, any issues?

So I have a friend that has 2 brew demon fermentation tanks and has only brewed 1 and 2 gallon kits. He does not have any way to ferment the full 5 gallon batch, is their a way to make the wort, cool the wort and split it into the two vessels. Then I was thinking he would split the yeast and pitch while they are in their own vessels.

Thoughts? Has anyone doing this?

Yes, split batches are a fairly common thing.

Yes, you can produce the wort in a single batch, then split it. You can also pitch two different yeast strains if you want, or dry hop one half of the batch but not the other.

One could also steep grains in a side-pot, pasteurize, and add this to one of the fermenters. There are a number of additional ideas (that I haven't tried) in the book Brewing Engineering (I rarely, if ever, see those additional ideas mentioned here).
